One of my goals for bsky has been to rebuild Design Twitter. But what we got instead was something better: Design Bsky.

Did we forget years of usability best practices, for the sake of AI hype?
I really like how @vitalyf.bsky.social explains it, in his Design patterns for AI interfaces course (and tend to agree):
“I think that very often we kind of get a little bit too excited about the hype again...

It's the end of the year, budgets are tight, but you can still learn design and UX for free.

Happy couch potato Sunday to all the neurodivergent people, currently depleted from too much sociabilisation. Remember: taking time to recharge is not being lazy, it's self-care, to avoid burning out, especially since we might need some energy for the 31th!

Happy "can you setup/repair the wifi/the printer" holidays, to everyone working in tech and spending them with family and close ones.
Joke aside, don't forget to teach them about AI scams and set up a secret safe word to ask for, in case there's a shady call/ email/ text message. Stay safe!

A beverage goblin needs 3 drinks at a time: 1 for fun, 1 for energy & 1 to hydrate.
A book goblin needs 3 books at a time: 1 audiobook while working out, 1 ebook when she can't use/ forgets headphones, 1 paper book that is beautiful and inspirational that she can annotate.
I don't make the rules ☕📚

Dear museums, if your ticket booking system is so crappy and inaccessible that it takes me more time to book online than to queue at the counter, what's the point? Placeholders as labels, mandatory fields not marked, disabled copy pasting for emails, refresh in the middle and data loss, gosh...

I discovered latino brunch. I don't know if this is a thing or if that restaurant invented it, but I can never go back.
Also I learned how to make cute cocktails 😁

I would like to remind you that the only reason I know that 10 feet approximately equals 3 meters, is because of Dungeon and Dragons.
Let's not pretend DnD doesn't teach you useful skills 😁
But more seriously, let the kids play, the ability to create whole scenes with your imagination is amazing.

If an organization wants to learn, there are ways to become faster and more effective. But if you aren't going to do good faith design research to inform decisions, just don't bother.

Just ship what you want to ship and forgo the time faffing about with "synthetic users."

Wow the amount of AI art in shops for Xmass is just yuuuurk. It's inconsistent. It shows. There's no effort, like half of the stuff is blurry pixel mush. It's sad. And I know most marketing teams will go "it's good enough". But nope. It's sad. And customers are already annoyed at it.

Oooh look I wasn't saaaaad or stressed, I just needed to lay in a giant pool filled with balls, surrounded by soft pastel light and music 😅 And nice art.

When you are tired and read "fetish" instead of "festlisch" on an advertisement for clothes in German. Honestly, both worked. 😹

Hii, no weekly newsletter (or UX related posts) for the next 2 weeks, because, holidays, yeahy. Meanwhile enjoy some cute coffee with a rainbow and have a nice end of the year 🌈
(I might share some food and fun pictures here though)

It's been a super busy week that can be summarized into "the personas they teach you at school don't really work in enterprise UX, but with a mix of task analysis, journey mapping, knowledge gap and system mapping you can create something helpful".

If you need some social icebreakers, for friends, or for lovers, you can flip through those 2 decks of cards, and take turn answering the questions. Lovely idea.

Pantone’s Color of the Year Sounds About White!
Design is never neutral, and the choice of Pantone’s color of the year for 2026 signals a bigger problem...

The best tech innovation in the last couple of years is not AI, it's the "undo" button when you just sent an email and noticed you forgot the link/attachment. Sorry not sorry, it saved me so many times.

I wonder if there's a cop show with an episode where they find hair in the hat of the person, think it's a suspect, bring the person in and it turns out it's just the person who crocheted the hat. Because gosh I think all my crochets have at least 1 hair of me in them 🤣
