We published a new deep dive by Laurens Kuiper, who recently redesigned DuckDB's sort.

One data point: ordering the TPC-H SF100 lineitem table with the memory limit set to 30 GB is 3× faster in DuckDB v1.4 than in v1.3.

Varför är detta viktigt?
En stor del av svensk IT-infrastruktur hanteras av indiska företag såsom HCL och TCS. Mycket billigare än att hyra in samma tjänst från Sverige.
Kommunikationen går via kablar i Röda havet.
Vi kan komma att få störningar i driften av en mängd olika system.
Multiple comms cables cut in Red Sea, starting 05:45Z today, acc to Microsoft.

I count 17 cables along and numerous across Red Sea. The combination of unknown cables, position and heavy spoofing will make it hard to id a potential ship culprit.

@garygnutter.bsky.social might try anyway =)

@jakobbohr.bsky.social has made a very well researched piece on the Danish companies that serve the Russian shadow fleet. Long danish text. Hope to return with an english summary.

#Wireshark 4.4.2 has been released. Cheers! Also, the end of the year is a financially lean time for the Wireshark Foundation. If you or your employer can donate, it would help us out immensely.

Today my latest RFC was published. It fixes a security issue in the RPKI distribution protocol: in the original RRDP specification it was possible for one repository operator to impose load on another repository operator. rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9674....

Fun fact: DuckDB is faster at counting the lines of a CSV file than the UNIX word count command – and it also parses the file to identify its dialect (separator, quote character, etc.).

Here are the timings for a 3 GB CSV file: 2.966 seconds for `wc -l` and 1.261 seconds for DuckDB.
