DuckDB 1.4.4 LTS is out:

The last time we had a “.4” patch release was in 2022 for version 0.3.4. Of course, the project was at a very different stage then.

We hope that this release irons out most of the bugs that you encountered in v1.4. Let us know!

DuckDB now supports reading from and writing to the Vortex file format! The DuckDB Labs and Spiral teams have worked together to make Vortex available as a core extension in DuckDB.

🖥️ In today's “What's on your desk?” episode, @hannes.muehleisen.org tests the MOREFINE M700S computer. This computer ships with a Loongson processor that comes with its own CPU architecture. Despite this, DuckDB runs on it quite easily. See the details in the blog post.

DuckLake now supports data inlining with PostgreSQL and SQLite catalogs! You can avoid the small files problem in your lakehouse with any DuckLake supported catalog.

Update your DuckLake extension in any client on DuckDB 1.4.x to use this feature.

In DuckDB v1.4.2, we shipped a number of features and improvements to the DuckDB-Iceberg extension: insert, update, and delete statements are all supported now.

In a new guest blog post, Mark Harrison (Madhive) presents Frozen DuckLakes. These are read-only DuckLakes that only require object storage and are frozen in time. He shows a process for creating and freezing DuckLakes, and demonstrates their use and performance.
