There’s so very much wrong with the NYT, but what even is the point of this article? Gen Z is going to “cringe” themselves right out of enjoying life’s best things cause they’re too concerned with how that might look. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/28/m...

Some key takeaways based on an array of public polls from September through now:

Trump’s immigration approval remains underwater

ICE and its family separation agenda are deeply unpopular

By a 3:1 margin, Americans want legal status for undocumented immigrants over mass deportation 👇🏽
Donald Trump’s signature issue is collapsing under its own cruelty. 📉

New from @tusk81.bsky.social: "Beyond growing dissatisfied with Trump’s mass deportation agenda, Americans also want humane solutions for long-settled immigrants who call this country home"
Trump Is Flailing On His Signature Issue
Continued polling reveals that Americans are only getting more horrified at mass deportation and want humane solutions for long-settled immigrant contributors.

🧵This horrific story is being reported all over Latin America, but not the US.

Randall Gamboa, a Costa Rican, was deported from the US in such a critical health condition it required an ambulance flight.

He then died upon his return to Costa Rica after being detained for 8 months by DHS.

Read her book!! On Repentance and Repair. Crucial, helpful, incredibly readable. I quoted it extensively and Burn It Down & interviewed @theradr.bsky.social
because people need to understand that repentance is not a one-off/soundbite, it’s a *process* with the community and centering those harmed 👊🏻
Look, I absolutely believe in the ability of people to grow and redeem themselves for their earlier misadventures and even plain awful shit they did, but you need to *do the work*. There is no redemption without repentance, to paraphrase my good friend Rabbi @theradr.bsky.social.(also read her book)

Read HER book!! BURN IT DOWN is crucial all the more in this age when people seem to have amnesia about why patriarchy is, like, bad and stuff

Hope folks feel less alone today, that people join with others to take further and deeper actions, and that everyone fights like hell to protect those most vulnerable to this regime.

One more note. Someone a lot smarter than me made a similar point in The NY Times this morning. @tressiemcphd.bsky.social argued against democrats trying to run to the middle. It hasn’t worked. Try doing the things suggested by more progressive and populist people.

Excellent points from @tressiemcphd.bsky.social and @jamellebouie.net throughout this conversation. I especially liked the observation that Trumpism speaks to a "franchised version of white Southern rurality" that one can find throughout the country.

Still more on the South and labor:

"Southern politicians go out to the rest of the world and say to them: Our labor is easier to control than the labor is in California. Our labor pool is difficult to unionize in the American South, and this is the deal we’lll make with you."

New in PN: Osita Nwanevu on the imperative for a new American founding

"To get to deeper systemic changes, we have to adopt a rhetoric and messaging about democracy that's more galvanizing than what was offered in this last election, when it was just about institutional defense."
“We need to conceive of democracy as something more revolutionary”

remote work is like birth control or UBI atp where there’s overwhelming research consensus they improve quality of life for people they apply to, yet access is impeded or blocked by the ruling class because the thought of marginalized ppl having rich full lives makes steam come out their ears
2. Rolling Stone is owned by a large media conglomerate, which is ending remote work across its brands.

My home is Portland, Oregon, ~1,000 miles from the nearest office, so this marks the end of the line for me at RS.

Thirty-one years ago, there was a slave auction reenacted at Colonial Williamsburg.

Some thought it powerful, many thought it insulting.

This summer, I traveled to Williamsburg myself to see how the country’s largest living history museum today tells the story of Black life at America’s founding.
What Is Colonial Williamsburg For?
Telling the full story of the town’s past is an easy way to make a lot of people mad.

Sotomayor: "race is *always* a part of redistricting efforts."

Thank you. See, the Republicans are trying to gaslight people by suggesting they're for "no race in gerrymandering." That's just not true. Race is ALWAYS a factor when you're drawing a map.

Unreal stuff from the guy who is unflinchingly loyal to the Insurrectionist-in-Chief - you know, the President who pardoned the January 6 insurrectionists and wants to mandate “Ashli Babbitt: Blood Martyr” as a new national mythos.

I know we're not surprised - but let us not forget to be shocked.
Mike Johnson: "They berated a Capitol police officer, screamed at him. He was merely standing his post. It shows, again, their disdain for law enforcement, the Democrats, screaming, assaulting officers."
