Someone ought to mention that, once again, a man easily able to access a gun ended someone’s life in this country. In other countries, indeed in almost all other countries, this is highly unusual. In the United States it happens every day.

I received death and r&pe threats during my time as a pubco CEO. Some were handwritten & mailed to the office. One was so violently descriptive my assistant at the time had a panic attack. Wojcicki’s attempted attack left 3 employees dead. You can be angry-you don’t need to create collateral damage.

Apparently unpopular opinion : the majority has no clue what it takes to be a CEO. There are plenty of terrible ones who don’t deserve their jobs. That doesn’t justify murder. 3 of my CEO friends have been murdered - they were good & kind people. (1 was 21, 2 were killed in front of their partners)

Probably not a PC opinion, but I love having a “straight passing” gff who tells me all the inappropriate things men say about me to him thinking they are in a “safe space”. Nah, the safe space is with the gays, the theys, and the allies. Is #choosethebear still a thing?

You would be amazed at the things the left and right on the ground BOTH want, but are nonetheless the subject of constant vitriol because of the bullshit political theater on display and people online who benefit from sowing discord.

Some shower/driving thoughts about safe haven elitism:
There’s a saint in every trailer park and a bigot in every manhattan tower.

I’ve moved from Brooklyn back to my hometown in Mississippi and am getting a crash course in, among other things, where ideology burns up in reality’s atmosphere.

& if you look closely - you can see it. Cities that have fought hard for equity & equality - Knoxville, Chattanooga, Asheville, Atlanta, Athens, Savannah, etc. The South - she’s trying to be better for her people. She’s got a huge battle, but she still fights. That’s more than most states can say.

The South, despite being chronically categorized as racist, behind the times, etc (I am not arguing these) has been much more likely “to flip” in the recent historical years. We have SO MANY on the ground warriors that do not exist in the “settled states” you can trust to always vote blue/red.

I am a proud Southerner. I call myself this because, like many of us who live or grew up there - we saw the need. I love the election season keyboard warriors screaming that “the south shouldn’t even vote” - let me remind y’all Georgia saved y’all’s behinds. The REST of the nation should take notes

I'll say it again for the ones in the back:

The laws against minorities and gay people here are so regressive BECAUSE there are so many minorities and gay people here.

Don't fight us. Fight WITH us.
Anti-Southern elitism is so deeply ingrained in people that even on a post reminding people that not everyone in a Geographic area is identical, you get people saying things like "Southeastern Alabama could be nuked and it would be a net positive." You are not the progressive you think you are.

They have a vibrant *living* culture, it is not some historical curiosity. The number of fluent and semi-fluent speakers reflects that. People need to be reminded that their connection to the land is very much in the present tense.

This is an absolute tragedy. Living in the low country for 10+ years I got the privilege to attend a Gullah celebration & eat traditional Gullah food made by a family on Sapelo. Gullah-Geechee culture is an integral part of low-country living and MUST be preserved and respected.
For over 230 years, Gullah-Geechee people called Georgia's Sapelo Island home

County commissioners voted to remove zoning restrictions & to strike language stating it should prevent “land value increases which could force removal of the indigenous people”
Gullah-Geechee people fight against ‘erasure’ of their historical land
Descendants of enslaved people in Georgia protest vote for lifting protective laws, threatening a 230-year-old heritage

Something I have embraced in my 30’s (that I never would have accepted in my 20’s) : life is hard and cruel to EVERYONE. Choose your battles wisely, because everyone around you has weapons - and battle wounds. I am learning to put my “weapons” away and face humanity with the same grace I wish for.

Went with a quiz to elect my invite winner. This is why it’s important to have friends with different interests (and also to have friends who share your interests).

Omg got my first invite code today on 1,000,000 users day and …… idk that’s such a perfect number, I just don’t wanna share my invite. Kidding! I’m making all my friends prove their internet worth [AKA a bluesky invite] by telling me jokes and correctly answering “an internet question”.

I’m v hungry on my non-service flight (thinking I was well prepped with my protein bars). Start smelling something delicious. Seat mate comes back (thought he was in the bathroom). Nope, he’s got instant ramen stir fry with sweet chili sauce. I am both shook, impressed and I have questions.
