Someone ought to mention that, once again, a man easily able to access a gun ended someone’s life in this country. In other countries, indeed in almost all other countries, this is highly unusual. In the United States it happens every day.

Michelin ✨ restaurant (featured on Netflix’s Chef’s table) - owner, head bartender & director & directors partner were leaving work. Gang violence spilled into the city, and he sacrificed himself to protect the owner and his partner. He was hit by a car with active shooters.

While folks want to glorify the murder of another CEO / Entrepreneur, let me tell you about mine. Aboriginal art museum owner, shot for his cash while walking home from work with his wife. He was a new business owner, and was making significant traction in the local community.

You would be amazed at the things the left and right on the ground BOTH want, but are nonetheless the subject of constant vitriol because of the bullshit political theater on display and people online who benefit from sowing discord.

I love this thought & I’m going to use (w/credit) this one in my arsenal. One of my favorite things to tell people (and it is the truth) - my life has been saved / improved more often by complete strangers who owed me nothing than my own flesh & blood.

They have a vibrant *living* culture, it is not some historical curiosity. The number of fluent and semi-fluent speakers reflects that. People need to be reminded that their connection to the land is very much in the present tense.

Ok I have to fan girl because studying language revitalization is SO COOL & I have so many questions. IYO - how do we get “normies” to recognize the importance of remaining language? Something that has stuck with me is that translations are not usually perfect, so you lose meaning in translation.

There’s already plenty of highly developed rich beach house communities in the area - causing tremendous devastation to wildlife & destabilizing land & tide patterns by destroying swampland. Restricting land dev is smarter for the entire area & protects a beautiful longstanding community culture.

This is true, sorry for not clarifying better. Most semi-fluent do not live on the land in question. Regardless, it’s a language & way of life that shouldn’t be forcibly removed for the idea of improving land value for land that doesn’t (& won’t ever) have much industrial / commercial value.

This really needs to be highlighted. There are less than 300 people who can still speak Gullah. They cause NO harm to the community, only benefit, and the land itself in question is not suitable for large scale development. The economic benefit is a joke compared to the culture & traditions lost.
