Minister, hunchback, religious hillbilly, he/him. Disability, Christianity, politics, miscellany. Any political statements are made in my personal capacity.
One of the church's Executive Ministers is retiring, and his retirement party features an organic recital (he LOVES organ music) and remarks by so many friends in church leadership. A great gathering of well-wishers.

We certainly knew this already about disabled men, from Richard III to Skeletor, Dr. Doom and Dr. No.
Because who ever said disabled people aren’t capable of locking animals in cages, stripping Munchkins of their rights and turning their ex into a shiny metallic servant boy.

Canada is releasing a set of stamps celebrating the nation's graphic novelists.

These stamps feature Kate Beaton, Jimmy Beaulieu, Guy Delisle, Julie Doucet, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, alongside some of their famous works.

Christmas lights are up! Of course, this has inspired visions of even more lights, so I'm going to Canadian Tire at lunchtime tomorrow.

Interesting. My father was on HMCS Huron, off Korea, on that date, and I had not known that Huron was in company with Haida.

Félicitations aux Carabins de Montréal, vainqueurs des Huskies de Saskatchewan, qui remportent la Coupe Vanier pour la troisième fois. L'Université de Montréal possède un excellent programme de football.

Yuletide Faire at Wall Street United Church today. Bought a Kenyan nativity set, baking, local Winchester Springs honey, and dishcloths, ate tourtière and quiche, talked to lots of people.

JD Vance speaks of "my Canadian friends, whose politics focus obsessively on the United States." We are not treated as "friends;" perhaps this supposed obsession comes from the American administration's obsessive threats to annex the country.

The United Church of Canada's Five Oaks Retreat Centre in Paris, Ontario, has a wonderful bookstore, and I have to keep reminding myself how many boxes of books are sitting at home...

The Trump Administration is pledging to work with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and others to stop the war in Sudan, when it's the UAE supplying weapons to the Rapid Support Forces that is fuelling the conflict.

On this Trans Day of Remembrance I honor all trans people, and I think about all the trans people who intersect with disabled communities who can't fully be themselves due to ableism and transphobia. I see you. I support you.

I didn't take responsibility for the ancestors who somehow passed on to me the genetic marker for ankylosing spondylitis. My bad.
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

My late father in law was a wireless operator on HMCS Peterborough, on convoy escort duty from St. John's NL to Londonderry in Northern Ireland. In May 1945 he received the message notifying ships that Germany had surrendered.

I need to examine this. Low-contrast slides with illegible fonts are a constant issue in my church circles.
periodic reminder of the existence of Atkinson Hyperlegible, a free font available from the Braille Institute designed to improve readability for people with low vision

I use it in talks because it's pretty and also because, as an audience member, I am perpetually squinting at people's slides

My great uncle, Rev. Claude Hayward, was chaplain on HMCS Prince Robert and would have known all of these men, as well as the Canadian prisoners they liberated - he had been aboard in 1941 when Prince Robert brought the Canadian force to Hong Kong.

Cha gheill!
While there have been many close Grey Cup games, the most lopsided game happened at the 11th Grey Cup in 1923. Queen's University defeated the Regina Rugby Club 54-0.
The next most lopsided game was Edmonton's 48-10 win over Hamilton in 1980.

50 years! I have been a @CKCUFM listener for at least 45 of those.
Tomorrow is officially CKCU 93.1 FM Day in Ottawa!

We're honoured by this recognition of 50 years of amplifying voices, telling stories, and strengthening democracy.

Independent media matters, and we're grateful Ottawa agrees.

Proud of Queen's Gaels football for the season, the Yates Cup victory and going to the Mitchell Bowl. Couldn't get by a strong Saskatchewan Huskies team to reach the Vanier Cup.

MAGA folks on X seem unified in their response to various developments in the US-UK relationship: the United Kingdom, whose King just hosted the Dear Leader for a state visit, is not an ally of the United States, and is unimportant to American security.
