Looking back at 2024

Overall it was a good year. I'm always improving and learning. I attended my first art market.

I just like to wrap up 2024 by saying thanks for all the new followers, the likes, the shares, and all the kind words.

If Waterloo Region is serious about ION expansion, they need to be serious about starting to implement the Grand River Transit business plan. Cuts to core routes and wrapping ION trains with ads isn't it.

Have you heard of the Transit Death Spiral? It's happening right now in Metro Vancouver. Nic Laporte explains it perfectly in this video in collaboration with Movement. Do you think we can flip this downward spiral into growth that serves the needs of our region?

Here’s something that could make Canada Post profitable — like it did before -- but instead Mark Carney wants to gut our national post office. That’s no way to build a nation. #canlab #cdnpoli #postal #canpoli www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

Weekend trains to Owen Sound on Saturdays in the *deep breaths* 1930s, but the most Metrolinx can give Waterloo Region in 2025 is a special Oktoberfest train going in the opposite direction, so people can come experience the glorious tradition of downing lukewarm beers under a tent at Bingemans
Sep 28, 1930: eight Canadian Pacific Railway passenger trains previously assigned to North Toronto Station begin operating out of Union Station. These were a daily Montreal overnight, a daily (except Sunday) Owen Sound round trip and two daily (except Sunday) Teeswater round trips. 1/2

The most underappreciated issue in urbanism is the Anglosphere’s transit construction cost problem.

It’s not just that we’re spending too much money on any particular project.

It’s that we could be getting *much more transit* for the *same amount of money we’re currently spending*.

📐🍓Angular Stained Glass Strawberries📐🍓

My final pattern came out more angular than my original design concepts. But it was easier with the tools I have at the moment. Limitations sometimes drives designs.

🍓Prototype stained glass strawberry patterns & design process.🍓

I loved all the original pattern iterations as much as the final, but with tools I have vs don’t (really could use a grinder), the final was the way to go. I’m happy with how it turned out, see tomorrow’s post.

Silly Smiling Dumpster

My first stained glass piece completed. I’m so happy learning a new hobby, but I’ve still got a lot to learn, and improve. (Like I need to get better at copper foil tape + soldering, for sure). Much different experience than electronics soldering, for sure. :)

For the local transit users did you know GRT (Grand River Transit), turns 25 today? First day of operation January 1, 2000 taking over from Kitchener Transit, and Cambridge Transit. Kind of miss the Red & Orange color schemes but nice having a unified network. Hoping for more growth over the next 25
