when racially marginalised and working-class children’s language is framed as symptomatic of ‘misbehaviour’, this contributes to broader ideologies of deficit and low expectations that shape their unjust experiences of school
what does ‘misbehaviour’ sound like? in new open access work i ask this question in the context of school discipline policies, looking at how ideologies of ‘im/proper language’ and ‘im/proper behaviour’ coalesce and get co-constructed with one another. doi.org/10.1080/0962...

Also in Finnish:

”Mitä sä traihardaat?” Why do you try hard?

See Leea Lakka’s dissertation www.mtvuutiset.fi/artikkeli/tu...
I've just learnt that "try harder", which is common in video games, has become a French word.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you "traillarder"(verb) and "traillardeur" (noun).
L'académie Française will definetely sulk, but I love it.

The German verb 'lassen' looks a lot like French 'laisser'. They even have the same meaning: "to let".

However, that's a coincidence. These words are entirely unrelated etymologically.

'Lassen' is related to English 'to let', while 'laisser' is related to 'lax'.

I am on the look out for linguistically diverse picture books. Specifically, books that integrate multiple languages - not as bilingual picture books, but as part of the general narrative. (Bonus if they include more than two languages, but not requirement!) #langsky Please share!

However, if children were exposed to a broader range of accents at home, they were more positive to different accents overall.
