Eating #apples are propagated by grafting, not by seed. So the only reason we can *still taste* ancient #Roman varieties is because one generation of farmer after another has gone out into their orchards every c70 yrs or so, in peace & war, across the last 1.5/2 millennia, to graft a new Decio tree

Bronze Age ploughing was performed with the ard, consisting of a share, stilt, draft-pole & yoke. This was used to cross-plough at right angles to break up the soil & remove weeds. This ard from Dorney, Buckinghamshire is made from a half split log of Field Maple. From BAS-Newsletter-Autumn-2018.pdf

This is the spectacular view of Cuddy's Crags along the route of Hadrian's Wall in Northumbria, looking east.
A grey, cold day, but I genuinely enjoyed working on the red/purple rocks and subdued colours.
