The allée couverte de Ty-Lia, Île Grande on the Côtes-D'Armor in France. Covered by two capstones, the largest seems to hover above the two orthostats at the entrance. #StandingStoneSunday

The rather majestic Menhir de Saint Uzec near Lannion in Brittany. 7m high, Christianised in the C17th, but unmistakably neolithic in origin. #StandingStoneSunday

The Kerivin or Keranguez Dolmen near St. Pol-de-Leon in Brittany. #TombTuesday I've never stopped to take a look before thinking it was in the middle of a field by a very busy road. Actually well sign posted and on a quiet lane (off the busy road). Thanks for the idea @frenchmegaliths.bsky.social

Not that one. But that is good. The one we saw - the Grand Menhir de St. Eden is a fallen one, and the angle it's at is all the more unfortunate! I'm going to have to post it now! 🫣 #StandingStoneSunday so sorry

My #StandingStoneSunday is brought to you from Finistere where I have been on a bit of an @megalithic.bsky.social menhir hunt this morning. I have one which is just too phallic for a Sunday, so instead the Menhir de Cam Louis near St.Eden. Right on the coast path overlooking the sea. Stunning.

I can't decide what to post so here's a room full of standing stones found at the Margam Stones Museum near Port Talbot in Wales #StandingStoneSunday

A view of the Cairn de Barnenez near Morlaix in Brittany. #TombTuesday I have a few days away in Roscoff in a couple of weeks so may re-visit. Any suggestions for places to visit gratefully received! The more of the beaten track the better.

The Stripple Stones, Blisland in Cornwall #StandingStoneSunday A stone circle within a henge. On my mind as visited Castilly Henge excavation yesterday - which was fascinating to see. Looking forward to hearing more about what's been discovered about that site. #Cornwall #Archaeology

The huge sarsen stones guarding the entrance to West Kennet Long Barrow, with a glimpse of Silbury Hill beyond. Pic from a couple of years ago. #StandingStoneSunday

If a standing stone can project an "I'm obnoxious" vibe (I'm being polite here) - it's this one! #StandingStoneSunday
The Dol de Bretagne, which, legend has it, appeared in the height of a battle where two brothers met and fought, when it rose up between and separated them. There does seem to have been a battle near here in 560 CE between father and son. #StandingStoneSunday #Folklore #Bretagne #Breizh #Brittany

The southern row of Les Alignements du Moulin, Sainte-Just in Brittany. Great place to visit - this stone row just one of many megalithic sites on Les Landes de Cojoux. #StandingStoneSunday

The Siblyback Moor standing stone on the south-east slope of Newel Tor. #StandingStoneSunday #BodminMoor We walked from Siblyback Lake, although probably not so far if approaching from Kilmar Tor.

It's not #StandingStoneSunday unless someone posts a pic of the Rudston Monolith, so here we are. Taken three years ago on a half-term break to visit number 1 son while he was at York uni. He's 24 today so I feel as old as this stone.

Let's go with a #StandingStoneSunday that should really be #TombTuesday. These stones form a kerb of orthostats around a mound with a lovely cist in the centre near Trewortha Farm on Kilmar Tor, Bodmin Moor, taken a few weeks ago on a CAS walk.

Flying a kite at The Hurlers, pic from 2012. Blurry old photo, and a happy memory. All three will be on their way to their uni's, starting with number 1 (flying the kite) today. By mid-September we will have no children in our house, the first time since 2001. #StandingStoneSunday

Remains of a probable bronze age cist at Colliford Lake in Cornwall, the cist is visible at the moment as the water level is low. #TombTuesday

Some of the stones of the partially submerged Er Lannic stone circle, Brittany. Taken on the return trip from Gavrinis. I struggled to get a good pic as I was sat on wrong side of a packed boat. Try again next time! #StandingStoneSunday

The Cairn de l'île Carn for #TombTuesday off the coast of Finistère at Porsguen. This cairn has three chambers, two can be accessed to view the incredible corbelled roof. Well worth a visit - just check the tide times.

I've posted this #StandingStoneSunday stone before, but yesterday on a walk with CAS it caused a little controversy about whether or not it really was a Bronze Age menhir as described here share.google/h24Jxlk1t0Jx... if the HER record isn't for this stone (?!?) I need to go back and find the match.

Hit the point of a holiday where you're not sure entirely what day it is. So thank goodness for day tags, otherwise I would be lost. #TombTuesday pics taken last week at one of my fave places the Mougau Bihan allée couverte, Commana in Brittany.

Places like these draw us in time after time. Our own memories linked to these ancient monuments. Why we were there? What we were doing in that stage of our lives? The menhir Men Marz near Brignonan-Plage in Brittany, yesterday but could have been 5 years ago or 15 years ago. #StandingStoneSunday

Gavrinis #TombTuesday taken last week on my first visit since about 2007. Already planning the next trip as there really wasn't enough time to properly appreciate all the engravings. #Neolithic #Brittany

A happy #StandingStoneSunday from me in Brittany this week! The Quadrilatère de Crucuno in Plouharnel, Morbihan. Either an overly creative late-19th century re-ordering of what may have been several rows of stones, or a fairly accurate restoration of cardinal point aligned arrangement of stones.
