Historic buildings archaeologist, completely obsessed with buildings old and new, strange addiction to photographing hinges. Big fan of Pilchard our ex-MOD land rover & truly ruled by our rescue cat Thomas. Did I mention I love historic buildings..?

These decorated bone slips were found during excavations at Cairn H, one of the Neolithic passage tombs at Loughcrew.

They date to the 1st century AD, and they were found along with other material from the Iron Age, showing that the Neolithic tomb continued as a place of importance for millennia

The late saxon rood set into the porch at St Matthew's, Langford is a thing of beauty.
Simple and striking although sadly now headless, such a rare survival and a treat to see.

St Giles Cathedral in #Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Hidden inside the bell tower is a five storey timber frame built with oak from north east Scotland which I have #dendro dated to AD1459/1460. The only building in Edinburgh to have native oak, most historic buildings have Scandi imports
