I really like my factory job. Low stress, nice coworkers, union & pretty good pay for a SINK. If I was a DINK I'd have no worries.
More in No, Other People:

New poll:

“America would be better off if more people worked in manufacturing.”

• 80% of Americans agree
• 20% disagree

“I would be better off if I worked in a factory.”

• 25% of Americans agree
• 73% disagree
• 2% currently work in a factory

They didn't want to do a 2% wealth tax, so now they've lost 10% of their wealth. Thinking is hard when you're too wealthy.

Important note about this breakthrough:

Literally would not exist without the kind of Federal support the current administration is slashing.

Took 15+ years of research at a federal lab (Lawrence Berkeley) to get this to a point at which private enterprise could take over and make these at scale.
Thanks to Steve Jobs and Gorilla Glass, factories in America are now ramping up to make affordable windows, made from panes thinner than a credit card, that can:

* save Americans $25 billion / year

* withstand a 2x4 shot out of a cannon

A Piece of Glass Thinner Than a Credit Card Could Solve America’s $25 Billion Energy Problem
New windows can insulate better than most walls, and some can even survive being hit with a two-by-four shot from a cannon.

It couldn't happen here in Oz.
we believe we are special and we simply are not
People are unwilling to believe this country could actually fall apart. They've been unwilling for the last 10 years. And it's that unwillingness that may well kill us in the end.

Why is Kinzinger more vocal and active than 98% of Democrats in office?

What's left to even worry about shutting down?
Senate Democrats met privately today for lunch to discuss strategy. They widely disapprove of the six-month bill that House Republicans passed, but they remain jittery about a government shutdown if it fails. With Rand Paul a NO, the bill needs at least 8 Dems to pass the Senate. Jury's still out.

I'm watching alongside Illinoisans what's happening in our country right now with dread.

The authoritarian playbook is laid bare: they point to a group of people who don't look like you and tell you to blame them for your problems.

What comes next?

Srsly, can you believe we're living through the fall of the US?
It’s worth considering that unconfirmed people are doing a total takeover and destruction of US government systems as if we are under foreign attack. Our justice system has repeatedly ruled it’s illegal and ordered them to stop. They are largely ignoring those orders
This is an absolutely astonishing report.

DOGE did a complete takeover of CFPB’s systems at the root.

This is identical to worst case scenarios for the most devastating cyberattacks by foreign actors, only this is an *internal* threat

i'll be blunt, if you are someone who is vocal about the ways that diversity efforts "divide the working class" but silent about the ways that *actual racism and discrimination* divide the working class, then i think you're just an opportunist

Many Democrats and activists are rallying to defend diversity programs, but others say they distract from deeper efforts to address inequality.

One thing black people know is that while you won't get all that you want from the D party what you do get is better than the alternative.
The campaign was given so many opportunities to win voters. So many. They ranged from policy commitments, to meetings with Palestinian families, to being given lists of community leaders to engage, etc. They told us their path to victory did not require us. So just stop. 2/

👇 This coup is only possible on the heels of neoliberalism & the billionaire class it generated.
The corporate coup is global.

Trump's mad tariffs do not mark the end of neoliberalism or free trade or whatever you want to call it.

They mark the end game of what we have been fighting for decades: corporate rule.

They do not believe in the public. They believe in their wealth.

My low buy year just turned into a no buy year. I won't be buying anything but the essentials sans 1 or 2 inexpensive & once in a lifetime show tickets for the foreseeable future.
4) How is a 10% tariff on Canadian oil which supplies 4 million of barrels a day to US, particularly in the midwest, help Americans at the pump? How does taxing lumber help with housing costs? Trump policies making grocery, gas, & rent go up.

The Chinese can do everything better & cheaper. The US was able to offer a world class if not world best business environment but no more. What do we have to offer now?
February 2, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Trump will crash our economy, he and other billionaires will buy up assets cheaply & China will be the global superpower. I work for a Chinese owned firm so maybe we survive the crash? Wealth inequality has destroyed this country.
The obvious response for both countries to Trump's absurd tariffs, in violation of the agreement he negotiated five years ago, is to turn to China.
