This is nuts. Somebody indicated that this is not a copyright issue because of the rights granted/given away by the author - I have no idea whether that is the case, but if it is, we really need to beef up moral rights under U.S. copyright law.
The question is “why?” but the answer is “time to leave”.

This is bullshit. Is it corrupt for someone in a position of power to solicit gifts with a non-binding promise to reward the giver with favorable actions later? Of course it is. Does it make a difference if that promise is implicit? Not morally or ethically.
Corruption requires explict quid pro quo. It is not corrupt to take an action that aligns with the interest of a person who gives you a gift, unless the official action was in direct response to that gift--a bribe. Terms matter. Accuracy and fairness matters. Regardless of what social media wants.

Yeah, I was actually impressed with how solid and thorough the advice appears to be. Lawyers don't make the decisions for their client, but are obligated to give the best advice and representation that they can. (That's different from whether they can lie in court or make bad-faith arguments.)
Here's the takeaway that people need to have from this story.

If you've ever litigated against the feds, you know that for at least some of your cases, memos like this exist. Memos that say this argument is horseshit, what you did is patently illegal, and the plaintiffs are 100% in the right.
NEW: Trump’s Department of Transportation is livid after its DOJ lawyers accidentally published a memo exposing the weaknesses of its congestion pricing case.

“Are SDNY lawyers on this case incompetent or was this their attempt to RESIST?”

A whole bunch of people are going to be confused today when they discover that stocks going down by 15% and then going back up by 10% does not mean that they're only down by 5%.
Instead, they're down 6.5% ...

This is hard to dispute. If China decides to call his bluff, to see if they can break him once and for all, it could get a lot worse before it gets better.

They memorialized the “wink, wink” in the letter!
This footnote in Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove’s memo to Acting U.S. Attorney Danielle Sassoon, directing her to dismiss charges against Mayor Eric Adams, is … something:

This complaint is really nicely done. It does a great job of highlighting the ever-shifting justifications offered by the school system. They obviously picked the wrong student to mess with, and for what? This was an event that would have gone completely without notice.
A Cleveland Co. student sued her school board today, claiming that it banned her club from playing a quiz game highlighting social contributions of LGBTQ+ people, but allowed them to discuss violence, political controversy, and drug use. #nccourts
