I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

The fact that so many public schools still lack air conditioning feels like a moral failure. (Also, bureaucratic failure, political failure, messaging failure, etc).

ok i have another quote tweet prompt. what's something, big or small, related to your job or hobby, that most people don't know that you would like to have them know? it can be a concept, a piece of history, some vocabulary, or something else.

Oh, the prompt was: "Show your age with a vague benchmark," or something.
My father's neighborhood had a "rag man," who went up and down the streets in a horse drawn carriage, selling rags. My dad, who was six or seven at the time, got in bad trouble for putting a piece of long grass in the horse's nostril.

Reskeet how old you are, using a vauge proxy:

My mother spent the end of her pregnancy hiding inside from the Mt. St. Helens ash.

I also learned that Frank Sinatra once rhymed, "For Heaven rest us/ I am not asbestos." (Technically I guess it was Oscar Hammerstein and Dorothy Fields who did the original rhyming).
Learning a lot this week as I teach a 40 hour course to unionized construction workers.
"You don't want to get two checks today" = don't do anything to get fired.
"Must be the shop steward" = the guy who is most attentive to when lunch time starts.
"If you're not in a hurry, you're behind."

Well, folks, I'm networking. Looking for a new job, with the knowledge and support of my current employer. One thing I miss about Twitter is the convenience of DMs in a situation like this. Uh... find me on LinkedIn?
Tossing this out here to see what happens, I realize I'm light on details. Thanks!

I’ve been reading about Jerry Seinfeld. I’m shocked, shocked! That a 70 year old billionaire who has been world famous for 30 years is embarrassingly out of touch.

This is all I can muster this morning, not that anyone asked:

"All of this has happened before; All of this will happen again."

Imagine the person saying this is very, very exhausted and glum.

The best thing about leaving FKA Twitter is that I used to be an Extremely Online Person and now I am much less so. It feels like quitting smoking felt. Better for my heart, mind, and spirit, but looking back on my old habits feels gross and a little embarrassing.
