I still remember my grandparents phone number, disconnected for 30 years, and I remember when you only had to DIAL 5 digits if you were in town.
If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.

"These games are being degraded by the increasing use of professional tricks to stay alive! And I won't have it! So put on a good show, and there'll be plenty of money for the living and a decent burial for the dead."

- Hegseth probably
Oh, I've seen this movie. He's going to have them parade in front of him on chariots and then he'll deliver a four-minute lecture about how the strength of our empire lies in its diversity.
Hegseth orders rare, urgent meeting of hundreds of generals, admirals
The Pentagon has summoned military officials from around the world for a gathering in Virginia. Top generals and their staffs don’t know the reason for the meeting.

Searching for old British newsreels from the 1940s on YouTube and up pops a very recent, very American, wildly anti-semitic video. Disheartening and depressing when this stuff intrudes no matter what you search for. 🤮

An interesting explanation of something I knew nothing about. With a cameo appearance by Pierre Trudeau.
My mom and stepdad are from the same diaspora group as Zohran Mamdani’s dad (same like “my stepdad was kicked out of the same town and knows some of his classmates”) and apparently the New York Times doesn’t understand how diaspora works, so I am going to tell you a little about my mom’s people!

I watched the first episode of the new Apple TV show "Smoke" and then had a weird dream that I was making toast and an electrical cord was draped over the toaster, glowing red from the heat. I live in an old wooden house and I don't think I'll be watching that show. 😱

It's disorienting when everywhere north of here is roasting while we're expecting only a balmy 92°. Of course we'll have 110° in the shade by August. Stay hydrated ya'll!

Only this group of mooks could make the US Army look like a ragtag bunch of prisoners on a forced march toward a firing squad.

You’ll be too young to remember, but there was a time when you could wake up as many as three mornings in a row and not find the world had lost its fucking mind.

I once chatted to Alec Baldwin at a reception while he looked over my shoulder for someone more important to talk to.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

I would like to be able to drive on the state highways of Louisiana and Mississippi without getting stopped in highway patrol roadblocks. It's becoming a bit much, guys.

Someone gave me an edible and told me to only eat a quarter of it, so of course I ate the whole thing and played Scattergories and laughed so hard that my abdominal muscles were sore the next day.

My son and his husband got a DNA test on their rescue dog 7 years ago, and today they were notified that he has a sister nearby. They're arranging a play date! He is a great dog, so those folks lucked out when they adopted his sister. ❤️

A great analogy.
Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

Home-growns. That's American citizens.
Trump to Bukele: "Home-growns are next. The home-growns. You gotta build about five more places. It's not big enough."

I went to a nearby convenience store this morning. Saw a guy wearing an LSU cap with an American flag patch on it, but the flag was backwards - stars on the right. What's that all about?

Off topic but I have to shout out the Wisconsin Capital building in Madison. I took the tour and it's one of your more stunning state capitals.
What we're seeing at #handsoff protests nationwide today and what we saw at the ballot box on Tuesday are not unrelated. The public is furious. It will not be silenced. And those who side with Trump and Musk—or refuse to fight back—will be swept out of office.

I'm seeing a lot of photos and videos of very large protests with no violence. Not many police, which is probably why there is so little violence.

My mom's social security retirement deposit is due next week. I pity the fool who messes with that. She's got time on her hands and nothing to lose. 🤷🏼‍♀️

If these people have done such terrible things that they had to be removed from the United States in defiance of a court order, there must be lots of evidence of that, right?
