A “self-coup” is when a leader who gained power through legal means overturns the rule of law to seize dictatorial power. It’s what Ferdinand Marcos did in the Philippines. It’s what Bolsonaro tried to do in Brazil. It’s what Trump is doing now in the U.S.

Our analysis, which shows that more women nearly bled to death during miscarriage after Texas banned abortion, adds to a growing body of reporting revealing that maternal outcomes have gotten worse under bans.
Miscarriage Is Increasingly Dangerous for Women in Texas, Our Analysis Shows. Here’s How We Did It.
Using seven years of hospital discharge data, we found that the number of blood transfusions during emergency room visits for first-trimester miscarriage shot up by 54% since Texas banned abortion.

In case you missed it, we had two important stories come out Monday.

EPA workers have joined NIH workers in rebellion against their leadership, releasing their own declaration similar to the original Bethesda Declaration.

Also, the NIH fellows union endorsed the Bethesda Declaration.
NEW: Nearly 300 EPA workers have signed onto a “Declaration of Dissent” against the Trump administration’s climate policies and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s leadership.

This is the second declaration to come out of this administration from angry federal workers.
EPA Staffers Demand Change in ‘Declaration of Dissent’
“Today, we stand together in dissent against the current administration's focus on harmful deregulation, mischaracterization of previous EPA actions, and disregard for scientific expertise.”

Finally a corporation is reacting to what’s happening here. Don’t be surprised that it’s not a car company or a shampoo brand. They’re all still pretending that life is normal.

It’s a bookstore.

Barnes and Noble fills their store display windows with Orwell’s 1984 and Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale.

This is not the time to be walking on eggshells. We’re walking through ruins now, the deliberate desolation of the temple of our ancestors: self government, sovereignty of the Law, generosity to the poor, welcome to the stranger, and justice without mercy to the tyrant.

Hey MAGA,

He didn’t lower grocery prices

He’s not deporting just criminals

He pardoned hundreds of criminals back onto our streets

He didn’t end the war in Ukraine

You didn’t get a $5,000 check from DOGE

He’s started a new war with Iran

It seems that you’re the ones who got owned

Tribal college leaders said they were stunned by the Trump administration's proposed cuts to their already insufficient funding and had more questions than answers.

“It’s a dagger, and I don’t know how we can survive these types of cuts,” one college president said.
Trump Wants to Cut Tribal College Funding by Nearly 90%, Putting Them at Risk of Closing
ProPublica found that Congress was underfunding tribal colleges by a quarter-billion dollars per year. Rather than fixing the problem, proposed federal funding cuts unveiled this week would devastate…

We still have no idea who the ICE agents are. They could be insurrectionists, extremist militiamen or criminals themselves, chasing law-abiding citizens down the street for recording their kidnappings. The odds they aren't are low. Congress must raise hell about this. A masked gang runs our country.
