The Brewers connection Stearns/Williams is pretty obvious here IMO. I do like Devin Williams and I think he will have a very good season, but I don't think he is quite as good as Edwin Diaz. Not sure why the Mets are pinching pennies here (and I'm assuming Diaz now goes elsewhere).

We see this elsewhere, the coworker with impeccable credentials who doesn’t do their job well, the person with a great mind but no soul, the band that plays their instruments really well but is just dull. The 25 Mets were missing something that even the most advanced analytics can’t measure.

Agreed. Williams is a depth move, not a replacement closer. He was setting up at the end of last year and doing a decent job of it.

IMO, he showed last szn that he can't be a closer in our city. I believe some of his early season closing failures in the Bronx were due to a Sonny-Gray-esque inability to handle high pressure situations in NY. (Gray's a starter, but it's the same idea). He did much, MUCH better in the 7th or 8th!

I have been in denial and sad about the Mets since the season ended the way it did.
I’m sad about the Brandon Nimmo trade, but I understand it from a baseball standpoint.
