The Great Eastern St/Shoreditch High St/Commercial St is one of the most dangerous in London.

Following support at consultation, I'm delighted TfL is proceeding with transformational safety scheme, including:
🚲bike lanes
🚦new & upgraded crossing
⤴️restricting dangerous turns

considering becoming a single-issue "on the spot fines for using speakers on TfL" London Mayoralty voter. A power the mayor actually _has_, could reasonably _enforce_, would be revenue _positive_, while also _not_ being targeted only at young people

Agree that behavioural science still has a lot of insight for governance. Uber's big innovation wasn't making the taxis arrive any faster, it was just reducing the uncertainty about when it would arrive. A simple tracker for your position on a NHS waiting list would reduce a lot of frustration
New post just out:

"Troubleshooters"

How fixing the many small frustrations - that make up most of our interactions with the state - can give people faith in goverment's ability to make things work.

And help create a different Whitehall culture.

I will stop kvetching about the pieces being written by government loyalists one day (no-one lives forever) but it is just wild reading 'Luke Akehurst's thoughts on which voters reflect the true essence of Labour' given, well, everything the government faces:
Labour’s electoral strategy debates are a distraction from governing
More useful discussions right now might be the UK’s defence commitments and what that means for taxes

Bit worrying that these vehicles have just covered up their licence plates - presumably to avoid paying congestion charge?

The York Way/Agar Grove/Brewery Road junction on the border of Camden & Islington is really unpleasant for people cycling & walking.

@camdencouncil.bsky.social, with support from Islington, is proposing significant safety improvements - have you say.

Aside from the distracted driver themselves driving into something, the other issue with drivers using phones is that other drivers then do things like this

Important message for anyone reporting traffic incidents to the Met Police - make sure you fill in the time of incident box otherwise the report won't be processed!

Once any space becomes less than 40% male, (straight) men tend to cede it entirely while shouting about how it “went woke”. Fascinating read:
Why aren't we talking about the real reason male college enrollment is dropping?
We would rather talk about literally everything else.

Did you know: thanks to Eric Pickles it’s illegal to enforce parking fines using photographic evidence. One of those “one weird tricks” that Labour can do to just reverse a Tory law that makes the country worse, for free

Interesting article from Iain here. I think a lot of it comes down to EA being relatively marginal, so it doesn't have to worry about its donations replacing other forms of charity.
Sunday long read: Against Effective Altruism

Though well-intentioned, its grander assumptions (beyond the most basic, such as 'which bed net charity is most efficient') repeatedly miss the mark - and can lead us to very odd places.

Well, not so much 'against' as 'nuanced disagreement', but who wants that in a title?
