So the key aspect that makes a university is its research, so what is it when there's no or little research? A college?? A serious errosion of knowledge creation.

Fantastic inaugural Professorial lecture by Prof Eva Malone, reminding us that the academic path is far from straightforward a series of up's and down's, changes in direction. The important thing is to maintain a passion for education and learn from when things didn't go as planned.

Re-upping one small idea: Universities should commit to preserving library/journal/software access for students and researchers who have to leave academia because of funding cuts. We need concrete, practical ways of preserving scholarship.

In 2023, 87 cyclists were killed on the roads. As far as I know, not one of the drivers responsible received a life sentence. At a minimum every single one should have lost their drivers licence and a prison sentence. www.gov.uk/government/s...
