EVs Surpass Gas Cars in Emissions After Two Years: Study
A groundbreaking study from Duke University scientists clarifies the debate on electric vehicles (EVs) and their climate impact. Researchers published their findings in PLOS Climate. They show that battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) outperform gasoline-powered cars in lifecycle emissions after just two years. Battery production demands high energy. This creates a larger initial carbon footprint for EVs. However, EVs quickly offset this through lower use-phase emissions.

Dangerous rhetoric
Nigel Farage has hit out at universities for “poisoning the minds” of students with what he said was a “twisted interpretation of history” in his speech on the opening day of the Reform UK conference, reports @patrickjack.bsky.social

In May 2025, the government published a white paper called “Restoring control over the immigration system”. It proposed making it more difficult for migrants to qualify for permanent residence (also known as settlement, indefinite leave to remain or ILR).

Ipsilateral motor cortex contributes to force production. This is a topic I have been passionate about since it was the primary focus of my PhD. This is a cool study that supports it's active role in force production during unimanual tasks!

Nice work authors!

The North East neglect in this country is unbelievable. This is a truly amazing place with world class people. The neglect from the government regardless of party really needs to be addressed.

This alarming statistic begs the question, is it still reasonable to base academic promotions criteria on external funding success?
August 4, 2025 at 7:38 AM
Yeah... because the likes of Oxford and Cambridge and other top flight universities across the UK really needed this relative to the rest of the academic sector in the UK. This is such a shame.

At our last meeting @jandrushko.bsky.social & Jason DeFreitas introduced the physiology & physics of #EMG & how to get optimal signals. They stressed the importance of:

* setting up a low-noise lab
* consistent electrode placement
* digital filtering
* amplitude normalisation

A really useful talk!
