YOUR FAVORITE WEATHER APP IS JUST A PRETTY DISPLAY OF NOAA DATA

Ppl seem to think that "NOAA weather forecasts" means climate-, boat-, or "in addition to my app"-weather. But the weather forecasts *we all use* are made from the NOAA data *we all paid for*

Make that part clear when you ⬇️
I’m thinking we should spread this news about the firings at NOAA as far and wide as possible. Like cancer research, weather forecasting seems likely to be broadly popular across the political spectrum. apnews.com/article/nati...
Hundreds of weather forecasters fired in latest wave of DOGE cuts
Federal workers who were not let go said the afternoon layoffs included meteorologists who do crucial local forecasts in National Weather Service offices across the U.S.

All probationary federal employees at NOAA’s EMC that’s responsible for keeping all US weather model systems running have been fired with 1 hours notice. And that includes me and colleagues. We will not go quietly because we care about the NOAA mission to protect the public.

Check in with those who choose to take lower pay, knowing they will often be belittled, put down upon, complained about, but still take the civil servant job because they have a drive to serve their country... Even when their country acts as if they despise them... They are not doing well right now.

Incredible CME, maybe superstorm on the Sun’s far side today—measuring over 3000 km/s, it will truly go down as one of the fastest CMEs ever measured. Had this been directed toward Earth, it probably would have arrived in just 14-16 hours. Most CMEs usually take around 3 days to get to Earth.

Some stars produce 'superflares', which release orders of magnitude more energy than any known solar flare. Vasilyev et al. examine thousands of stars with properties matched to the Sun, finding they undergo an average of one superflare per century. 🔭☀️

Attention aurora chasers! Have you ever "heard" the aurora? You can actually hear pulsating aurora in power lines like this video (sped up) shows! The exact reason? We don't know! That's why if YOU have a real-time video of pulsating aurora with strange sounds, we're interested!

Less than 45 minutes since the peak of the X2.2 flare with an accompanied CME from AR3912 and we are already seeing a sharp rise in low energy electrons and protons at L1. This hints that we could likely see a radiation storm in progress in the coming hours. ☀️

Solar flares and coronal mass ejections are not phenomena that can be referenced interchangeably. They are completely different phenomenon with completely different impacts. ☀️
