What Preceded This Bloodshed in Gaza Was Not “Peace” — It Was Apartheid
Israel’s plan to treat Palestinians in Gaza as “human animals” and starve them reflects the conditions of apartheid.

that’s funny cause when I was at Harvard we had a president who argued that women lacked the intrinsic aptitude to do science and also pissed off the entire AfAm studies department so they all decamped to Princeton but I guess not reflexively losing ur shit over a student letter could seem bad too

Check out my conversation with @shaneburley.bsky.social about how antisemitism is showing up and being weaponized in the current moment:
When Jewish Anti-Zionists Are Compared to White Supremacists
"Anti-Zionism is accused of being antisemitic when it is critical of Israel, which, in many people's formulation, is the primary vector of Jewish safety," says Shane Burley.

it's cool how Netanyahu is on record saying they have to prop up Hamas to undermine Fatah, and Hamas's funding comes mostly from gulf oil monarchies, and the American press looks at this situation and decides the ultimate responsibility for Hamas's terrorism lies with American College Students

It is possible to think that the Israeli apartheid must end now, and that the bombing of Gaza is a war crime, and also think that Hamas indiscriminately murdering civilians is a war crime. It's not even a paradox or a logic puzzle, it's a basic consistent moral position.

Not to get too on my high horse, but this is one of the reasons anti-vaxx has had such staying power in mom communities in particular.

Medical sexism like this feeds pregnant person distrust, which drives folks to "natural" approach quacks, who then preach anti-vaxx to those same folks postpartum.
I swear to God the entirety of mainstream medical pregnancy info stuff is designed to try and gaslight pregnant people into reading very real (if highly variable) pain as "discomfort," presumably so we stop bitching and go back to work like good little capitalism cogs

As a kid who grew up in an extremely fundamentalist and authoritarian group/family AND was homeschooled? I had freedom in books to learn and escape and our librarian was my world. Also... librarians are often the only caring adults kids like me would know on the outside who might report abuse.
The attack on libraries will not end with any consensus standard for what counts as prurient or pornographic, because the attack isn’t about that. It’s about eliminating the library as a public space where a child can find the smallest measure of freedom from parental domination. 📚

The New York Times holds responsibility for this. Stoking transphobia and carelessly giving a platform to an untrustworthy source is going to deprive trans kids from much-needed medical care. While the NYT courts controversy to sell more papers, real lives are being affected by their callousness.
The Washington University Pediatric Transgender Center in St. Louis, Missouri, is closing after being targeted by an anti-trans media circus and a new state law banning gender-affirming care for minors. @transscribe.bsky.social reports:
