The essential failure of LLMs in the smart home - where natural language processing should shine - is the best evidence that LLMs as a technology simply may not be able to do the things they’re promised

I’ve decided it’s past time I start describing “artificial intelligence” as a failed technology, and I’d like you to join me.

This might be 'too little, too late', but I really like the vertical tabs in the new Firefox. They are still missing some basic features in a modern browser (PWA support, tab groups) but hopefully they can catch up soon.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

Neko Case is amazing. I can't wait to read her memoir.
The singer-songwriter Neko Case peels back the mystery of her life in a new memoir, “The Harder I Fight the More I Love You.”

On Radio Atlantic, she speaks with @hannarosin.bsky.social about a lonely childhood and the music that helped her through it.
