Not a one-word article. C’mon, BBC. This one’s easy.

Our local Facebook town hall group is assembling an angry yelling squad for one of our city councilors who posted about Kirk’s racism. He’s also a professor at the local college and they’re also hoping to get him fired. It’s horrifying to watch but I guess I can’t argue it’s honoring Kirk’s legacy.

Ha ha, Missouri. Iowa’s already solid red and we even keep electing Grassley. Nothing they can do to make it worse here.
The Missouri Senate just passed a gerrymandered map.

The move will likely give Republicans an additional House seat after next year’s midterms.
GOP nets 1 more House seat as Missouri passes gerrymandered map
The state Legislature redistricted amid a national push from President Donald Trump to add House seats in GOP-led states.

This is a weird timeline.

Takes a week for mail to go a couple counties over in Iowa these days because the post office was intentionally crippled in hopes it would hinder mail in voting in 2020. The number of things like that that are so many things ago we don’t talk about anymore boggles the mind.

I don’t understand the Big Manly Truck Guy rule that one must leave one’s truck running when one goes into shops. Is it an extra middle finger at fuel efficiency losers? A sign that you’re so manly no one would dare steal your giant truck? Very weird.

Even my small Iowa town turned out at the local park. If only we’d had this sort of energy back in November.

It's interesting to watch the usual system break down. Most times when he does something that creates backlash he backs off and his minions pretend that was always the plan and the press helps and it goes away. But he reeally wants that plane. So they have to come up with some way to make it work.
TAPPER: Even if Qatar isn't asking for anything in return now for the jet, that's a bill that could come do. Nobody in the world just gives a $400m jet to be nice.

BESSENT: Well, I don't know Jake. The French gave us the Statue of Liberty.

It’s interesting that he wants to be seen as infinitely rich and loves the trappings of wealth - tacky gold leaf on everything, military parades - but often speaks like a penny pincher. “Not paying taxes makes me smart” “Bro, free plane! I can’t turn that down!”

Can we just give him $500 billion, full legal immunity, and a staff of 100 people who'll follow him around for the rest of his life telling him he's amazing in exchange for him appointing Kamala VP and stepping down?

Since all the transphobes are quiet about the possibility of the Department of Education getting eliminated, I guess it was never about protecting women’s sports after all, since the DOE is the department that enforces Title IX.

All of this. We’re past the making fun of them phase. To steal a quote from a friend, we’re going to end up “A Closer Look”-ing ourselves into oblivion.

Ironically, this is classic GOP mindset working on the left now. Give voters something to be afraid of, an enemy to oppose, and they're much better aligned. Right wing media consumers are just never allowed to not feel this way. And for much less actual reason.

They should be taking a victory lap today. This week is one of the biggest moments in the advancement of the far right since 1930s Germany. Supporters are out of jail, hundreds of EOs on the books. So many things they want happened in just a couple days. But they need to stop and chastise dissent.
Trump Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt: "It was supposed to be a unifying and bipartisan church service ... everybody there was shocked and mortified by the disturbing comments from this bishop who chose to weaponize the pulpit ... she spewed lies."

Thread. This is both unsurprising and fascinating. And most of the replies are objecting to the word “misinformation” rather than “disinformation” rather than engaging at all with the point, so I’m feeling good about BlueSky as a new home for proper liberal discussion.
Misinformation isn't random - it's strategic. 🧵

In the first cross-national comparative study, we examine 32M tweets from politicians.

We find that misinformation is not a general condition: it is driven by populist radical right parties.

@philplait.bsky.social, if I can impose on your for some astronomical wisdom - recently watched ST:WoK with my kids. We know a nebula looks nothing like that but what would it look like from inside? If the solar system was in a nebula would we notice?

Goodness. The press was really hungry to jump on Joe Biden about something again. Maybe this time it'll work and Donald will start saying nice things about you again, guys! Keep the faith!

I don't watch much TV anymore so it's interesting to see political commercials today during the Bears game. Apparently they're all-in on anti-trans as their approach, at least here in Iowa. Bohannon's going to ruin girl's soccer and Harris is going to make transition surgery free in prisons.
