not dangerous like an evil genius. dangerous like a dog driving a train
Years ago, after the Cambridge Analytica scandal, I interviewed a former fb employee, and I remember her continually emphasizing that these tech bros weren't evil geniuses, but were, in fact, dangerous because they were utterly clueless, totally reckless, and had too much power.

I've said before that the core storyline of film noir is "an amoral person meets an immoral person and must, reluctantly, make a moral choice."

Europe got ravaged by two wars. People wondered if classical morality meant anything in a modern era.

Noir said, "Yes, it does."
Here's a mind-twister for some people. Noir is optimistic. I'm serious. Doomed protagonists, horrible options, bad choices, devastating consequences. All that and they keep going. Yeah, they're horrible people. They do horrible things. But in spite of all evidence they still think they can succeed.

TO THIS DAY, I can't help thinking about how the last old school tube TV I ever owned was killed during a lightning storm as I was watching Seven Samurai on Turner Classic Movies.

Holy shit, but it was like a viking funeral for that TV. It went out on the best possible terms. THAT'S a good ending.

I'm glad that America is doing real classic end of empire stuff. A king who is visibly losing his mind declaring a war based on a dream he had. Greedy courtiers feuding over access to the treasury. Some looks are timeless.
