Vancouver BC resident. French Canadian who left Twitter when orange 💩 first got elected. I’m here for news, science & discourse.
Returning from Colombo after the Ditwah cyclone, we were notified that check in would be done manually. I found it fascinating that people are thinking about these disasters and doing practice runs. Sure, checking in took longer, but I got home just as planned.

Stuck at the hotel for yet another day, but our situation isn’t as dire as some. Fingers crossed the rain stops today.

We came to Sri Lanka, hoping to lave the Vancouver rain behind. Oops.
Large parts of Sri Lanka are likely to see exceptional rainfall through the coming days, with some areas seeing more than one month's worth of rainfall within 4 days ⤵️

Currently in Sri Lanka experiencing my very first cyclone. If you’re still denying climate change isn’t a thing, you just need to come on over here. It’s here, it’s now.

Love seeing all these bikes at an elementary school in Glasgow. Who needs a bike rack when you have a guardrail? 😍🚲

I’ve been struggling with this exact same thought. I’ve met several nice humans, but humanity as a whole is terrible.
I guess the world is going to allow yet another genocide to go to its final
phase. Not all humans are bad, but humanity is indeed terrible.

Pierre Poilievre’s problem is that Canadians view him as an asshole. They always will. Many of us remember him at the start of his career. He hasn’t changed, he never will. Our perceptions of him will never change either.

I'm working on a story about designing public space to prevent vehicle attacks (in the wake of the Lapu Lapu Day attack). Can anyone recommend an expert who would be good to talk to?

Yep!

Good grief. This guy doesn’t understand basic science.

How long will we have to put up with his shit?
Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise."

Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms.

Ethical violation as POLICY.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr will require all new vaccines to undergo placebo testing, WaPo reports
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr intends to shift the way vaccines are tested, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing a spokesperson from the HHS.

You don’t have to be a “cyclist” to support safe bike infrastructure in your city. You don’t have to ride bikes at all. You just have to understand the FACT that bike infrastructure makes getting around easier & safer for EVERYONE, saves us all public money, & makes cities generally more successful.

Most folks live where the red parts are.
I’d rather we consider electoral reform first.
“There’s going to have to be a deep discussion about what’s going to happen for western provinces.

“What do we do when we see such a huge chunk of blue sweeping across all of Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and a little tiny pocket of red down in the bottom western corner of B.C.?”

Wow!
There are are 52 ridings across Canada where the population density is greater than 3,000 people per square kilometre.

The Liberals won 48 of them.

The NDP won 3, while the Conservatives won 1 — York Centre.

We got our Canadian election voter card in the mail this week, and will be taking advantage of the 4 days of advance voting that will make it easy.

Remember, the polls look good for Carney, but DON’T be overconfident.

Polls don’t win elections.

Neither do pundits.

TURNOUT wins elections.

Autistic kids are not broken. Not less. Not damaged. They experience the world differently and that’s not a flaw.

The real issue?

A world that isn’t built to include them.
Change the system, not the child.

Don't get played by Pierre
We get it. Things are broken and life feels impossible. And now Pierre Poilievre is running a slick comms campaign to try to convince us that he’s going to fix things. But we know a Conservative gove...

When I say you don’t have to worry about microplastics in your brain I mean that there is much stronger evidence that you should be worrying about other things that you don’t ever think about, like the draining of peatlands for agriculture, and things that you think about all the time, like fascism.
