Fun how it's always "selfish" for cyclists to use roads if that might slow drivers somewhat but not selfish for drivers to make roads functionally unusable for cyclists.

The counter argument of "but then there's no money for expansion" makes zero sense in a world where highways are free and constantly being expanded, with a justification that they're highly used.

oh american discourse is "too polarized"? then how come no one is talking about robert falcon scott, roald amundsen, frederick cook, manhauling, scurvy, frostbite and the submarine nautilus??????

When streets are safe for walking & cycling, people spend more time outdoors, supporting local businesses & keeping city centres alive.

👍Good for business
👍Great for communities
👍Essential for safer & healthier cities

I don't think it's a coincidence that cops started acting extra out of hand once we let them wear military gear. Make them wear clown outfits for several years to restore humility to the job

nearly every single major highway project ODOT has undertaken in the last twenty years has more than doubled it's original budget.

Yes, almost every time. Eye contact is one of my favorite tools for getting drivers to treat me like I exist.
When you are in an unsignalized crosswalk, or about to enter one, does turning & gazing at the drivers approaching you make them slow down & brake sooner? I think it does. What do you think?

For all the talk you hear from politicians about wanting to address the rising cost of living, somehow there never seems to be any meaningful reckoning with how much money most Americans are essentially forced to spend on car payments, gas, insurance, maintenance just to participate in society
According to Cox Automotive's Kelly Blue Book, the average cost of a new car is $47,577. By continuing to under fund public transit, we require Oregonians to spend thousands to buy and maintain a depreciating asset to leave their own homes.

Good public transit provides choice and freedom. #orleg

We’re not in a climate crisis because individual citizens don’t “care enough” to take action, though that may also be true. The climate emergency is here because fossil fuel profiteers, with little resistance from politicians and others in power, took deliberate steps to fuck us all over.

To write a lengthy article about a (hugely overstated) "teacher absentee crisis" and not talk to a single teacher currently working in Oregon schools is quite unfortunate. The framing here encourages people to pick sides instead of working together to solve any potential problem that might exist.
In and around Portland, teachers are missing more school than ever. Their bosses don't want to talk about it
It's not just students. Post-pandemic, teachers are also missing significantly more school days. Oregon has virtually no policies in place to counteract the trend.

People on foot, horseback, bikes and wagons were perfectly safe at uncontrolled intersections, but stop signs were created shortly after the invention of cars because cars are dangerous and drivers are assholes.
"Cyclists are always running stop signs!" Yes they make no sense for us, legalize treating them as yields
STOP AS YIELD PASSES 48-4 OUT OF THE ILLINOIS SENATE!!!!!!!!!!

MAKING ILLINOIS THE 14TH STATE IN THE COUNTRY TO LEGALIZE THE SAFETY STOP!!!!!

Looks like there's only ONE THING IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY that isn't being cut right now and it's the ONE THING YOU DON'T WANT
ODOT says the Federal Highway Administration will begin processing Reconnecting Communities grant funds only for projects that have already signed a grant agreement.

ODOT signed theirs back in October.
ODOT says Trump's DOT has given a green light on I-5 project grant
It appears ODOT's luck has shifted considerably.
