I'd be interested to see how much money Starmer is spending on AI magic beans versus how much is being stripped from the most vulnerable in society.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

Apparently the reason the left "always loses" is because some of us are annoying and put people off. The far-right, of course, are a bunch of cool chill guys that are fun and normal 24/7.

When I worked in UK academia I recall hearing of a Japanese man who was baffled at how Britain had decided to run its universities like firms. “Why? Your universities are excellent and your firms are terrible.”
To repeat: "A country so stupid it actively trashes one of things it's good at and famous for."
Today's university slashing and burning is Edinburgh, where about 10% of the budget will be cut. There'll be another case every single day until UK govts actually do something. A country so stupid it actively trashes one of things it's good at and famous for.

As a left-wing person who long reconciled himself with the reality that my politics are marginal and will likely remain so forever (and that I personally am not a terribly convincing advocate for them), I'm struck by how often the mere existence of my politics is treated like a major social problem
Blaming left wing people for rising fascism instead of the so-called centrists who destroyed any chance of progressive government and have now adopted far right policies about trans people, immigration and disabled people in particular is frankly a huge LOL Luke. Embarrassed for you.
Today @moreincommonuk.bsky.social
releases a deep dive into Progressive Activists, the most liberal/left leaning segment of the public. It looks at who this highly engaged group are, what they believe but also why their approach maybe leading to backlash against progressive causes.
