There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.

In the 90 minutes since I posted this, I've gotten two more death notifications.

ICE has a responsibility to take care of these people, something they are clearly disregarding. This is beyond horrifying. We must ensure dignity and humanity for detained people in this country.

Within 15 minutes today, I got two back-to-back notifications of deaths at ICE facilities.

28 people have died in ICE custody since Trump took office. These facilities are overcrowded & are putting their own profits over health and safety. We need oversight & accountability NOW.

David Brooks, who wrote in the NYT last month, "The Epstein Story? Count Me Out" is... in the latest Epstein photo dump published by @oversightdemocrats.house.gov.

He should absolutely be fired by NYT for this. Major conflict of interest that he didn't disclose.

He never disclosed that he’d visited Epstein in that column and did a lot of hand waving to insist that he and his fellow elites had nothing, nothing at all to do with him.
I know a thing or two about the American elite, ahem, and if you've read my work, you may be sick of my assaults on the educated elites for being insular, self-indulgent and smug. But the phrase "the Epstein class" is inaccurate, unfair and irresponsible. Say what you will about our financial, educational, nonprofit and political elites, but they are not mass rapists. But the most important reason the Epstein story tops our national agenda is that the QAnon mentality has taken over America. The QAnon mentality is based on the assumption that the American elite is totally evil and that American institutions are totally corrupt. If there is a pizzeria on Connecticut Avenue in Northwest D.C., it must be because Hillary Clinton is running a child abuse sex ring in the basement.

President John F. Kennedy didn’t name the Kennedy Center for himself.

Eisenhower signed legislation to create a “National Cultural Center.” Eisenhower and Kennedy fundraised for it.

Congress and Johnson only named it in honor of Kennedy after he was assassinated.

In November of 1962, President and Mrs. Kennedy launched a $30 million fundraising campaign for the Center's construction. Former President Eisenhower and his wife Mamie participated in the event which demonstrated the bipartisan support for a world-class center for the performing arts in D. C. In 1963, President Kennedy signed legislation to extend the fundraising deadline for the Center. Two months after President Kennedy's assassination, by an Act of Congress signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on January 23, 1964, the nation's National Cultural Center was designated as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy. By this Act, President Kennedy's devotion to the advancement of the performing arts in the United States was recognized.
