The Canadian Poppy Blanket.

This was initiated by Winnipegger Sheilah Lee Restall.

It’s over 60 feet in length and has more than 8,000 handmade poppies and 2,000 ribbons.

It’s on display at the Manitoba Legislative Building.

It’s not just about what you remove (cars, noise, dirty air). It’s about what you add (people walking, a lot of bike parking, trees, outdoor dining, and room for kids to play safely). Amsterdam: 1986 and today.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you HAVE TO WATCH this news story. You actually can’t make this up. Ford claims without evidence that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data.

Stores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes ...

Amen.
Save the Spring Garden Area Business Association from themselves. Any inconvenience for the business owners (like not being able to park their personal vehicle in front of their business, or having to adjust delivery process) will be greatly offset by increased sales.
Spring Garden Road between the Gardens and the library should be converted to bikes & feet only. Argyle: Roof it over like a Japanese shotengai.

Allow drinking outside. It's not 1938 and we don't have scores of drunk violent military boys tearing up the city every weekend.

I can fix Halifax.

Only his advanced age prevented him from being a member of the Trump administration. Otherwise, he would have fit right in.
Imagine having this as your Nobel eclipsing final sentence:
"James Watson, Co-Discoverer of the Structure of DNA, Is Dead at 97...one of the most important scientists of the 20th century...later to ignite an uproar with racist views."

Also, Nobel made by Rosalind Franklin's images, unacknowledged.

My ask of any science enthusiasts who tell the story of Rosalind Franklin:
Don't make her life be about the DNA debacle. She died far too young, but she was a promising scientist in her own right, a mentor and scientific author.

Not for Watson or Crick, but for her legacy.

Won't be forgetting the racism, either.
It's irritating that they describe the effects of his racism as limited to causing controversy within science and reputational consequences for himself rather than giving an immeasurable boost, false veneer of legitimacy, and idiot-friendly prestige to modern scientific racism and eugenics.
