Former journalist, current media relations person in Tacoma. I take a lot of photos and read a lot and used to care a lot more about sports than I do these days.

New year, new books read thread. I only read 27 books in 2024 and would like to get that number to 40 this year.
That was one of the greatest collapses in the history of sports by the Sounders. Up 2-0 in the eighth minute, up a man and a goal in the 41st minute, had to tie it in the 88th, miss four penalties - including two that would have won the game.

Look at this asshole ICE agent pointing his gun at a photographer. Just the worst fucking people.

An incredible thread from the author of one of the best books I've read this year. Go salmon, go.
Grateful to spend two days on the Klamath watching chinook, liberated by dam removal, return to streams from which they’d been precluded since the Titanic sank. Fish are everywhere, in numbers that stagger the mind & locations that biologists figured would take years to repopulate. Too beautiful.

The Caldwell Police Department has been the only one of 10 agencies at a recent federal raid in Wilder, Idaho, to confirm that its officers zip-tied children during the Oct. 19 operation at a horse racing venue.

Some children were zip-tied during raid in Wilder. Will agencies own up to it?
The FBI first said reports that children were zip-tied were “completely false.” The agency qualified that by saying no “young” kids were.

Oh. My. God. What a day in the Puget Sound. 73 Endangered Southern Resident Orcas swam past Point Robinson Lighthouse on Vashon Island. Here is one breaching with a salmon in its mouth. 🦑

Republicans are perfectly happy that SNAP isn't being funded during the shutdown because they don't think that SNAP should be funded, period.
Trump’s Agriculture Secretary Rollins & Johnson called 42 million Americans losing SNAP benefits a “silver lining” because it sparked “a national conversation.”

Imagine being so detached from hunger that you see families skipping meals as a PR opportunity.

I keep seeing people say, oh, trans people must take a hit for the greater good and, first of all, no, you don't get to discard someone else's rights and second, we know from past experience that marginalized communities like theirs are merely the first to be targeted. They'll come for you next.

Fall colors and a bald eagle are pretty fun. Normally, I capture photos of bald eagles high up in trees - so I'm below them. Yesterday, I was on top of a cliff with very tall trees on the slope and so this eagle was actually below me. 🪶

Greg Bovino, the Border Patrol chief in charge of operations in Chicago, told a judge today the government needs more time to submit use-of-force reports to the court because of the "sheer volume" of reports
Ellis orders Border Patrol to submit, under seal, all of the use of force incidents in Chicago by the end of the day.

She also wants all of the body-worn camera footage.

Bovino says the "sheer volume" of the reports makes that impossible.

Just so everyone knows where we are currently in the job market: employers are asking for 3-5 years of experience for part-time jobs.

If you have a job - hug it. You do not want to be out here looking for one.
