When Michiko Tomioka moved to the U.S. from Japan, she was very curious to try American fast food. But her body pushed back right away.

She realized much of what we call “food” here is engineered to be addictive, not nourishing.

Here are five fast foods in particular that she personally avoids.
I’m a Japanese nutritionist and I never eat these 5 American fast foods—what I eat when I have no time to cook
Nutritionist and longevity expert Michiko Tomioka grew up in Japan, home to the world's longest-living people. Even though she lives in the U.S. now, you'll never see her ordering American fast food. Here's what she eats when she's looking for a healthy bite but doesn't have time to cook.

Most people assume all fruit is healthy. Not quite.

Here are nine low-sugar fruits that this heart surgeon considers some of the healthiest choices you can make.
I’m a surgeon and gut health expert: 9 'healthiest' fruits for a longer life—one of them I eat every day

Being in tech and having a single modicum of critical thinking is just screaming "this isn't what LLMs are designed for" over and over as people shove a bunch of word predictors into critical decision making processes because some glorified used car salesmen told them it would fix all their problems
Reporter: The FDA has a new AI tool that's intended to speed up drug approvals. But several FDA employees say the new AI helper is making up studies that do not exist. One FDA employee telling us, 'Anything that you don't have time to double check is unreliable. It hallucinates confidently'

When folks say “tech is neutral,” what they really mean is “I’m not ready to talk about who’s being harmed, who’s being helped, and who’s pulling the levers.”

I talk the myth of tech’s neutrality, share some personal news & really good book recs.

Hello garden friends! A little quick midday garden break. Still have planted a single summer veggie other than a volunteer squash I found while cleaning the beds. I may have to settle for roses and raspberries this summer or grab some starts from the nursery.

Le sigh. 🌱

Hot take: The current state of the country is enough reason to be in the streets protesting. It's not supposed to be a party. We need to get serious because none of this is a joke.

Not saying you won't have a laugh here and there, but that is far from the point of protesting.
The biggest thing we need to do is let people know that the protests are FUN. Yelling fuck the man is fun. You will meet fun people.

We also need to make them more fun. Bring grills like the French. Bring instruments like it’s Mardi Gras. Give people a reason to spend their weekend in the streets.

I am pissed. If you want change, you talk to smart people who can come up with better solutions. Which is why I ask questions on here
When we come up with better solutions , it makes the guy in the WH look bad and hopefully gets people to rethink who they support

If the new tariffs stay in place for multiple years, and are enforced and inflationary, and DOGE continues to cut and fire , we will be in a far worse situation than 2008
Hey, Mark. Assume Trump doesn't "cut deals" to reduce tariffs, and they just go into effect, as-is, if not even worse. What's the worst-case outcome. Would we face a recession comparable to 2008? Worse? As bad as the 2020 pandemic recession? Worse?

Question: What’s the best way for someone out of the country to get a cell phone number/line for a month? Is it getting a SIM card and swapping it? Going to Walmart and get a buy minutes phone? Is there a way to switch a # to US for a month?

I texted a friend: If I saw another country’s President this inept I’d laugh.

They texted back: We elected him because we're a nation of C and D students. And this is the outcome. You elect someone with a 5th grader’s vocabulary.

I’m flabbergasted.
