Hello! I didn’t post a lot on the other site because, well, who has time to deal with trolls? Looking forward to having actual conversations over here. I’m a voice actor, baker, crochet-er, mom, and cat lady. Love chatting about history and science and politics. Might mostly share pics of my cats.
This is the face of a cat who just stepped on my keyboard as I was setting up to record my next book, and managed to change all the settings + lock the computer screen. I do not even know how to do what she did. (All restorable, all fine, but GEEZ, Emily.)

I need help here: trying to submit comments to Jim Comer & the House Oversight Committee, but there is no contact info on the Committee website and his congressional site blocks me because my zip code isn't in his district. Is there a way around this? How do we contact reps who aren't our reps?

Another day, another Supreme Court decision suggesting that 5-6 of the current Justices have never actually read the Constitution. Farewell 4th amendment, I guess? On the plus side, soon we'll be able to generate renewable energy from the force of the Founding Fathers spinning in their graves...

Happy 71st Birthday to Ruby Bridges, who at the age of 6 desegregated the New Orleans public schools.

She’s younger than 30 senators and our last two presidents—and only 7 years older than Barack Obama.

The past isn’t past.

It has been the honor of my life to serve as Commissioner of BLS alongside the many dedicated civil servants tasked with measuring a vast and dynamic economy. It is vital and important work and I thank them for their service to this nation.

Shout-out to #neurodiverse kids and the parents (+ calm hygienists) who have helped them through the sensory hell of a dentist appointment. My poor #AuDHD guy made it through this AM with lots of breaks and only 1 meltdown (which he could pull himself out of! Yay!), but we’re both wrung out now.

I made a hat!

First time trying this pattern. It was a fun one! The sizing is a little large so next time I’ll count my stitches more carefully. #Crochet

Quick question for Republicans who consider themselves Christians: WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

‘Cause even this atheist knows this ain’t it.

Well. Our government has officially declared it is willing to spend $$$ to make ICE a full-on army, but not to actually keep people safe by making sure they have access to health care.

We’ve been attempting a window herb garden, with mixed results. The plant that has grown most enthusiastically? Catnip. My ladies are enjoying the results. #Cat #Catnip

In college (1995-ish) I was walking through Times Square when I passed Jerry Lewis. He was in town playing Applegate in Damn Yankees. I did a full-on unintentional double-take. He winked at me, and grinned. We both continued on in opposite directions.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

The idea of “real America” being small & rural has been around since at least the Reagan administration. Hand in hand with “we have to try to understand rural voters.” I’ve lived in big cities my entire adult life—Chicago, San Francisco, NYC—and it is as real America here as it gets. We are America.
not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns

los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

THIS lady. OMG. 3 wks ago we almost lost her to a kidney infection. Now she’s feeling so spicy that we missed her follow-up vet appt because she… vanished into another dimension? Seriously, I looked EVERYWHERE in our apartment. Rescheduled. She then casually sauntered in. Good lord, cat.

Audiobook outtake of the day: Sometimes unexpected visitors show up to listen in while you're recording. I think I reacted rather calmly, even though it was attempting to steal my coffee. Do Not Touch an audiobook narrator's coffee, folks.

Wrapped up another semester teaching Voice Acting at an NYU-Tisch studio today. The students were wonderful! They let me push them into new discoveries and found their unique voices. They’re all nervous about the world they’re entering…hopefully they can carry those voices forward.

The fun thing about having a super-clever AuDHD kid with asynchronous emotional and intellectual development is that when he runs into the room and says “guess what???” we literally have no idea if we’re going to hear about SpongeBob or the physics of a 4-dimensional object.

Hey, Chuck Schumer: you are out of touch with your base. Biden lost us the election because he waited too long to step aside for the next generation. Are you going to lose us our democracy?

I gladly signed this petition to encourage Schumer to step down as minority leader.

I haven’t taken a day off in two weeks and the awfulness in DC is depressing as all get-out
(we were betrayed by Schumer AND Gillibrand?????), but it’s Friday, we have two boxes of Thin Mints, and there’s wine just off-camera.

Et tu, Gillibrand? Just in time for the Ides of March, BOTH NY senators have stabbed us all in the back. Unlike Brutus, however, Schumer and Gillibrand betrayed the people to prop up and empower a #Caesar.
