The Exe is a beautiful river, but constantly under threat of unchecked pollution, which damages its precious ecosystems.
Luckily, there are campaigners who care and are working hard to stop the destruction, including @exetergreens.bsky.social

An interesting reflection of a BBC reporter looking at how climate change has impacted the West Midlands since 2000.

Flooding on the Severn, Wye and Teme rivers happened five times in five years back then.

Now, there are five times as many flood incidents.

Packed out room in the European Parliament tonight for the (re)launch of the SEArica Intergroup (seas, rivers, islands & coastal areas).

Lots of much needed focus on pollution and blue economy.

Albeit a lack of discussion on the interplay of climate with sea level rise and extreme weather ⛈️

Reducing the amount of water taken from the De Lank River, in the River Camel catchment goes towards cleaning up the mess caused by SWW mismanagement.

But one big investment in infrastructure after years of misuse of water does not a-sustainable-water-programme-make.

Bristol Cycling Campaign did a poll recently that asked what colour bike infrastructure should be to clearly delineate it from road space or general pavement.

The main suggestions are:

GREEN
RED
YELLOW (buff)
BLUE

Which is your personal preference and why?

Interesting discussion taking place in the UK’s HoL on #FloodResilience

“Where is the discussion about nature-based solutions to hold water and release it slowly and gradually?

[…]Do the Government recognise that the flood plain is not beside the river? The flood plain is part of the river.”
For flood #resilience, I focused on the need to build local community capacity.

Pleased that Baroness Hayman of Ullock for the government acknowledged the importance of town and parish councils

Striking similarities with authorities under scrutiny for lack of preparedness following floods in both Wales and Valencia.

#Climate adapted flood plans are not new. Flood safety in Belgium pivoted from flood control to flood risk approach early 00s, creating more space for the river and #nature
