The graph shows the dramatic increase in flood events on the rivers Wye, Severn and Teme.

The article concludes by speaking of mitigation measures required at local, national and global scales. Yes, however...

No mention of the adaptation measures needed for flood safety. Are there any?

Freedom from EU regulations (or lack enforcement thereof) has contributed to actual shit floating off our beautiful coastlines

My parents’ generation spoke of childhood marred by disgusting beaches in the 70s

Now my generation will speak of pristine blue flag beaches in the same way

Still furious

Eg in Gibraltar they have 🔵 which looks aesthetically pleasing, but the infrastructure is separated from traffic and therefore separate from driver psychology (in the main…you never know)

Interesting question! Weighing in as non-resident here, but in agreement with your other commenters that 🔴 represents some kind of uniformity. Also, it seems to communicate a clear no-go to drivers although perhaps also invokes anger. Would be interesting to study what other colours exist and why.

Eager to see how the work of the Flood Resilience Taskforce comes together. Do you see a role for communities in the decision-making process concerning flood management and not just the clean-up efforts? I wonder what are the challenges of integrating this into town and parish council structures.

Growing up in Plymouth with a curiosity for the French language, before DAB radio, we used to drive up to the cliffs in Plymouth, turn over to AM and get Europe 1 on long wave 📻 bit crackly albeit the best francophone option. Welcome back to the 20th century, the UK (and Gibraltar??) 🤷‍♀️😩😁

More unpredictable meteorological patterns as a result of climate change brings a higher risk of pluvial flooding.

Authorities cannot hold back the river. Decisions about how to manage the risks of flooding are sorely needed.
