I'd also note they already invalidated Section 3 that says that you can't hold federal office if you engaged in insurrection against the United States. These are not judges impartially applying the law. They are racist despots who despise American progress. (3/3)

Why would any legislator vote for a budget the executive will ignore?

In that situation, a yes vote conveys one thing and nothing else: validation for the White House’s blatantly unconstitutional actions.
The White House is canceling food research funding popular with the GOP despite budget chief Russell Vought's promise to leave that money untouched.

I will go to my deathbed, which god willing will be in like seven decades, absolutely hating these people for their sheer hubris and decadence. We had the world, and they are risking it all because they can't see past the bridge of their nose shoved up their ass
The thing that's astounding is they don't seem to understand how what they're exactly playing at, their cowardice actually increases their personal risk! Their entire being is predicted on the stability and order that they are choosing to compromise!
American elites are deeply corrupt scum. Dimon fluffing the GOP Senate caucus today was a perfect example of it.

Which is to say a functional democracy can’t just give the people what they want. It has to call people, in their capacity as citizens, to be their better selves and want decent things. And maybe there’s an unseemly whiff of aristocracy around that, but it looks like maybe it’s not optional.

Look, at some level you cannot have a functioning democracy where both parties presuppose an electorate of selfish, ignorant louts and compete to offer them the best array of goodies, which is more or less what “focus on kitchen table issues” means. You have to activate some kind of civic impulse.

NEW RESULT: Democrats have flipped a state Senate in Iowa.

This was a seat Trump carried by 11%, but Democratic nominee Catherine Drey has just won it by 10.4%.

This is the second legislative flip by Dems in Iowa this year. It also means the GOP loses its supermajority in Iowa’s senate.

this is exactly right. it's the same stupid bet every republican has made since 2015.
SCOTUS thought they could ride the tiger and get what they wanted ideologically. In exchange, they would give him everything he wanted except the Fed. Just leave the Fed alone and you can ignore all federal law. But it ended the same way it has for everyone who tried to ride the tiger since 2016.

Question for Kukathas: Why *not* just open borders? Control is costly. Immigration has enormous benefits. When we frame immigration as a problem, we just cede the narrative of the far right. Why not create a narrative of inclusive liberal cosmopolitanism? #LibCon2025

when RFK says he wants to “end chronic disease,” what people hear is “he wants to cure us” but what he means is “i want to cull the weak”
Republicans are waging a generalized war on science, but I think many of them don’t fully grok that RFK isn’t at war with science alone or per se: he’s at war with sick people, and of the view that only the lucky should be allowed to survive into old age. They are know nothings, he is Mengele.
RFK Jr. has now officially stated that he will dismantle the United States Preventive ServicesTask Force (USPSTF).

This is an independent body of expert scientists who volunteer their time to review data and provide guidance to Americans on important things like cancer screenings.

Easily the funniest Republican politicians are the ones who issue a grand statement like “My party has left me, I cannot abide by this extremism, and thus I will not be seeking reelection,” and then immediately revert to obedient little boy form and do whatever Trump asks. Pathetic.
And Tillis confirms that he will vote for Bove.
