I'm married to a former Colbert writer, which means I got to meet him occasionally at holiday parties. This also meant I was the *most unimportant* person at those parties. The Uvalde fiasco should have made it clear that there is something seriously broken with Texas law enforcement. The disease is submission to authority. It is an epidemic and spreading fast.
Q: There are reports where a fire dept commander asked a Kerr County sheriff dispatcher for a code red to be issued but they said they couldn't without a supervisor approving it. Almost 6 hours passes. How do you account for that lapse of time?

Missing mass is not a grave sin. It is a loss of the grace inherent in communal worship, and very hurtful for those who must go to such extremes.
Bishop of San Bernardino has indefinitely dispensed Catholics in his Diocese that fear immigration enforcement from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass (this is, like, one of the biggest things a bishop can do - the Mass is the center of catholic life and not attending is otherwise a grave sin)
