Having worked in philosophy at a post-92 university (Herts) when it was one of the higher ranked philosophy departments in the country, it's tragic to see how things have contracted in UK Higher Ed now. A bizarre, short-sighted act of national self-sabotage.
'the proposed closure of Kingston’s philosophy department is likely to be seen as significant because the south-west London institution is one of the few post-92 universities still offering the subject.' 2/2

This sums the situation up perfectly. Trump and Vance say they want Europe to pick up the tab, but when we do they squeal because they want the credit (and profits) for peace. Time Europe got off the US teat so we can see how they get on without 400m customers.

Excellent thread on the current crisis in UK Higher Education. 🧵
The crisis in British higher education is acute + painful right now. If you are in it you already know this, but for those who are not I want to share what is going on. As strikes start at Newcastle Uni + others will doubtless follow, now is a time for solidarity + resistance

As with other social policy areas & institutions, where universities are under financial or general strain, it becomes more difficult to address existing inequalities. There's a greater risk that inequalities will instead increase, eg that fewer rather than more disadvantaged children will attend

Fun Fact - the 25% tariff on imports to USA from EU hasn’t applied to the Tate Brothers❗️👇🏼👇🏼

Americans will pay 25% extra for German Cars, French Wine, Italian Olive oil etc

But Trump imports human trafficking rapists, who formed an OCG to sexually exploit women for free.. how f*cked up is that❗️ 🤷🏼‍♂️
