Back at it with @prismaticwasteland.com's look at the implied setting of D&D through the lens of language. What does the existence of 'Common' actually imply?

The Languages of D&D Imply a Specific Setting — Prismatic Wasteland
If you start from the premise that languages in D&D make sense you can extrapolate a bit about its implied setting.

at a certain level of any creative or intellectual collaborative job the main task is sin-eater: to fix what you can and get blamed for what you can’t, secretly knowing how much worse it would have been if you hadn’t done what you did.

"I can't afford to support my favorite author right now, I—"

Reviews.

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.)

Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!

No one before Sam successfully raised a child, which is why the human species went extinct in Mesopotamia. Seriously, the best way to read this is that countless billions of humans did just fine but Sam is not as competent and self-reliant as them, and that's what AI wants us to be: dependent.

As a former academic advisor, I definitely had to explain the value of general education. The "customer model" warps reality. Some just want to speedrun to a degree or major or job and don't understand the value of learning for the sake of learning.

The way tech companies constantly do stuff that nobody asked for really tells you a lot about their bigger ideology. They tell themselves that you will like it over time. What they mean is you’ll learn to endure it, or you’ll give up. quality of UI is not actually anywhere on their radar
new iOS update is sleek and also defaults in Music to “you must want songs transition as they would on a dance floor.” so many people will wonder why they can’t just listen to an album. Apps > Music > Song Transitions > toggle off.

Trinity Rodman has the blend of talent and charisma that makes a genuine star. It sounds obvious, but having her stateside benefits the entire U.S. soccer landscape way more than it does one single team.

Who's the first person you see in Adidas's opening ad for the 2026 *men's* World Cup? Rodman.
I've said this multiple times, but it's just so obvious that it behooves the NWSL, each NWSL club, the decision-makers in the league office, to keep Rodman (who by all accounts is leaving money on the table!) in the NWSL.

The existing arguments to the contrary simply do not hold water.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.
