i've seen a lot of people overcompensating in the other direction as well and it needs to stop. dijon is a very respectable mustard. stop calling it busted. stop calling it an poverty franchise mustard. stop saying dijon is on fraud watch
right wing cruelty and modern cooking ignorance have produced people melting down that you can buy dijon mustard with food stamps.

people need to internalize, very quickly, that federal research grants are a hypercompetitive contracting process not charity, and that what Uncle Sam gets in return for that money is American dominance in the future

Men are not constantly being told “you’re bad,” they are constantly being told “LEFT WING SJWS THINK YOU’RE BAD” by conservative propaganda. There’s a huge difference.
I have two sons, and I don't think I've ever seen messaging going "Don't be a boy" or "YOU'RE BAD."

Sure looks like that's in "I heard someone say that they heard..." territory, rather than actual direct experience.

Also worth noting, the main message from manosphere influencers is "YOU'RE BAD."
It's a brutal time for young men, and to be raising one. The primary message they now is get is "YOU'RE BAD" without any meaningful attempt to offer healthy pathways beyond "Don't be a boy."

Absolutely perfect time for right wing monsters to sweep in with shitty answers.

Small persistent pet peeve: activity sites that use "family activities" as a proxy for "activities safe for small children".

What if I'm trying to do activities with a parent? There are other "whole family" considerations (ex mobility??) that aren't just kids!

maybe lukewarm take but saying "does this make sense" isn't inherently something that indicates one thinks their explanation was poor.

moreso its goal to ensure everyone's on the same page - i think there IS a valid angle for pushback, but around how to better invite questions from the room!

30 years ago, we did. They were called "local newspapers."

Then the Telecom Act of 1996 allowed essentially unlimited corporate consolidation of media outlets and they killed off local news in the space of a single generation.
Imagine if we had a newsroom in every county that focused on municipal meetings.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you’re thinking of starting a newsroom in your community, you should do it.

“Being mad isn’t activism” is something that basically everyone on social media needs to burn into their brains.
If watching the bad men be bad helps to power your political action, by all means, stick your head all the way up that firehose. But remember, being mad isn't activism. Outrage doesn't change anything on its own.

And changing things is the point.
