When I see guys like Buttigieg I think of the Lincoln book TEAM OF RIVALS. The lesson of that book isn't that you should invite your opponents into your cabinet. It's that some people NEVER get over the desire to be President and that hopeless ambition morally corrupts them.

I was at school that night recording audio for a film school project in the Zemeckis Center at USC. My friend, and voice actor, told me they just called Florida for Gore and I relaxed. By the time I got home it had all unraveled. I stayed up all night watching returns come in. What a bitter memory.
i'm watching the 2008 HBO movie RECOUNT about the 2000 presidential election like i'm mark wahlberg talking about 9/11. "yeah if i had been there, gore woulda been president"

Something else awesome they had were these items from AMERICAN WEREWOLD IN LONDON. The mechanical animatronic for David's transformation was named the Change-O-Head and I can't help but think how much we have lost in the era of CGI.

Went to the Academy Museum yesterday with friends, mostly for the JAWS exhibit. We're gonna need a bigger, well, you know 🚢 🦈

Yes, THAT Pope.

I'm around 10 pages from finishing a new draft of a contained thriller. That's good. I've introduced a new moral obstacle for my protagonist. That's good. Which I do not know how to resolve. That's bad.

At Netflix today to teach a class on Avid Media Composer to their documentarian fellowship program. I did my best to confuse them the least I could.

If I were running for President, I'd run on a platform of "movies will begin after three previews and no commercials," and I would win in a 50 state landslide.

A lot of us have chased big dreams for a long time, and we all know a little help at the right moment makes or breaks you.
I think a lot about the story Carl Reiner told: he’d have been a sewing machine repairman if not for a free WPA drama class. That led to other theater work, to Sid Caesar, to Mel Brooks, and all the rest. All because of one free class paid for by a government that felt the arts were worth teaching.
you ever think about the works progress administration? I sure do. I wish that was a thing now. I would be so glad to contribute my labor to like. A random ass local bridge

Schumer can be removed from his Dem leadership role this week - 23 Dems (and/or independents) just have to vote to depose him

And they should, given this is his fault.
This is a lovely sentiment but Schumer isn't up for re-election until 2028 and he knows this. At which point he will be 77/78. There's no mechanism to recall a sitting senator AFAIK.
Let’s be clear: Chuck Schumer is the one ending this shutdown, no matter how the votes read.

Chuck Schumer is claiming that he’s voting no, while letting other Senators (Fetterman, Kaine, King, etc) do HIS dirty work.

He must be removed from his leadership & primaried for the sake of this country

BERNIE: “This senate is about to make a horrific situation even worse… health insurance premiums will double/triple/quadruple… some will pay 50% of their income… 15 million will lose insurance… 50,000 will die unnecessarily…”

A good thing to hear.
‘It takes a lot of energy to be an asshole’

Me in a spot on the ranch we call Treasure Canyon. I shot this on my Sony while testing out a gimbal.

These are belt buckles my Mom won when she was a rodeo queen in Nevada in 1960. All natural light shots.

I went to the ranch where I grew up and filmed with my Sony ZV E10ii. Some of these screenshots are really nice. Only a quick color correct on them.

AFF reader feedback arrived. The positives are strong ("excels at delivering a gripping survial story with high-stakes action and emotional depth") but the negatives, which contain spoilers so I won't share, knock two of my favorite things in the script, so 🤷🏻

I'm at Starbucks, and, in Starbucks tradition, there's an older dude talking a younger woman's ears off a seat away from me and boring her to tears. He's heavily invested in AI. He has opinions about DEXTER. Current topic: in future we will all be about to see each other's dreams.

it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

You know how the little girl in The Ring never sleeps?

THEY NEVER SIT DOWN.
I have new upstairs neighbors. They seem nice. They seem nice.

(Long beat; sharp inhale)

They are elephants in cement shoes and they pace back and forth like cracking my sanity is their $%#*@!ing job.

Are they running a marathon up there? Are they constantly on a tense phone call? Does one of them catch fire every night and the other is carrying bucket after bucket of water back and forth?? Just sit on the couch, please, and veg out like everyone else.
