Almost every aspect of your life that makes your life enjoyable is due to a relatively small amount of very serious people taking their chosen crafts very seriously.

I hope you can spend time with people who encourage you to be more like what you want. 💜

Maybe part of growing up is shifting from lamenting the burdens and yearning for someone (an actual or metaphorical parent) to lighten them > to accepting and coping with the weight *and* figuring out how to lighten future generations’.

Surely someone has already drawn Sonic doing this, but it felt like too great an idea to not try drawing myself. :3

This cover of Zombie in the style of Nirvana is wild. It's very close, and the way it does the chorus is really special. Also great breakdown at the end. Otu is so good, a genuine savant of the cover in the style of another band genre

In an episode of Rethinking with Adam Grant, Loretta Ross said something like "you can either be trauma-driven or trauma-informed". I've been thinking about it for weeks. So much of academia and leadership (in general) is trauma-driven...

I made a fairly simple frame for this print by a local artist) for my office. Slight bevel to add some depth, splines in the mitered corners. All leftover cherry from my previous bookcase build. #woodworking #handtools

The "we need to welcome disgruntled Trump supporters" push needs to be understood not as outreach (90% of those spouting it won't ever do any) but as trying to find an excuse to ditch the people most in danger to appease conservatives.

This is a very real problem. It's a major reason we got here.

Be clear: Marsha P Johnson didn't throw a brick through a patrol car windshield to be erased from history.

Trans women of color were some of the loudest voices in both word and deed. That should never be forgotten no matter how much the fascists try to minimize and erase their contributions.
This should be exceedingly obvious, but when Stonewall stays up while references to trans people come down, they will measure the silence of cisgender people as concurrence for whatever they plan next, and it still won't protect you in the end. So please get loud. Our mutual survival depends on it.

In case it helps someone:

The phrase “We don’t do / say that here” is immensely useful in managing people who feel emboldened to try to push boundaries and test behaviour norms in your spaces.
It’s a bland statement of fact, doesn’t contain an accusation, and can be used by anyone including peers.

when I made mistakes as a graduate student it was because I was under unrealistic pressure and they were part of the learning process. when grad students I work now with make mistakes it is due to their vile hubris which is an innate flaw of their entire generation.

In a bizarre turn of events, in the same week, #F1 has appointed Gordon Ramsay (see meme below) as its premium corporate hospitality partner. OK, F1 isn’t the same thing as the FIA, but they’re inextricably linked despite the discord between them, & you really couldn’t make this shit up now. (2/2)

one thing i’m stuck on is this idea that “masculine” energy means license to act like a chud in public, as opposed to more traditional notions of public masculinity, such as those that put a premium on the performance of integrity, honesty, honor and generosity.
