On 10 January 1942, RAF B-17C/D Fortress I AN521 was lost during a flight test carried out in the Middle East, with one killed. I understand the aim was to get a better grip on their real range.

#OnThisDay in 1936 No. 34 Squadron, based at RAF Bircham Newton, took delivery of their first four Hawker Hinds, they were the second squadron to receive the type after No. 21 Squadron received the first examples.

#OnThisDay in 1943, the first F4U-2 Corsair flew. These were F4U-1s which had been modified by the Naval Aircraft Factory with Airborne Interception radar installed at the expense of two guns.
