#OnThisDay in 1936, the Junkers Ju 87 V1 prototype crashed, as a result of tailplane failure. The pilot Wilhelm Neuenhofen and his engineer, Heinrich Kreft were both killed.

#OnThisDay in 1945, No. 119 Squadron retired their last Fairey Albacores, this brought the aircraft's front line Fleet Air Arm service to an end.

#OnThisDay in 1944, the Stirling Mk IV entered service when No. 299 Squadron based at RAF Stoney Cross received the first examples. The Mk IV was used mainly for glider towing and troop transport.

#OnThisDay in 1943, the B-25 Mitchell performed its first operational sortie with the RAF, when six aircraft from No. 180 Squadron attacked oil installations at Ghent, Belgium.

#OnThisDay in 1928, with Cyril Uwins at the controls, the first production Bristol Bulldog Mk II flew. This was powered by a Bristol Jupiter VII engine, which gave the aircraft a top speed of 174 mph.

#OnThisDay in 1943, the Spitfire Mk XIV prototype made its first flight. Production examples were powered by the 2,035-hp Rolls-Royce Griffon 65 engine, giving the aircraft a top speed of 439 mph.
