The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH**

Egg prices are soaring again. Here’s why and what to expect
Bird flu has killed millions of hens in recent weeks, shrinking the supply of eggs and hiking up prices at grocery stores.

Ok so if we are looking to stop using Meta platforms and TikTok, does anyone know where to connect in the same way? Best way to find similar interest-based communities on here?

I am out of the office for the rest of the year so naturally today SCOTUS takes Kerr v Planned Parenthood and whether or not beneficiaries have a right to chose their own providers which is one way states try to defund Planned Parenthood

I have been waiting to be able to schedule a sleep study for over a year. It also took 5 months to get an appointment with the only allergist in my area who specializes in mast cell diseases.

In college, I wasn’t able to schedule surgery until 6 months after a wrist injury occurred.
I’m obviously frustrated with the constant allegation that the huge (and only one they can come up with) benefit of the US healthcare system is “not having to wait for services.” Are there any of you that have a story about having to wait to your health detriment for US healthcare? Please share.

“In Maine, the deaf community is particularly intimate because of how sparsely populated the state is,” said Amy Richardson, who was friends with two of the victims.

“We are grieving,” she signed, using two hands moving in opposite directions on her chest, as if she was twisting her heart in half.
Maine’s deaf community reeling after shooting claimed four of their own
Many of Maine’s deaf people went to school together, and the loss of four deaf people in Wednesday’s shooting in Lewiston has hit the tightknit community hard.

As noted, Lewiston wouldn’t seem like a Black city by those in more diverse states, but it *has* been used nationally as an example to rile up racism and anti-refugee sentiment. It’s a dog whistle example and big in NIMBY circles.
Just to say it again, Maine has the highest percentage of white people of any state at around 95%., Black population about 1%. Going people hunting in an area that 20% POC/13% Black and specifically Somali Muslim is a choice.

putting this here: Lewiston is a notably Black and Muslim city. mental illness doesn’t make you racist and it doesn’t make you Islamophobic.

Lewiston is still in lock down. Since the gun debate is so often framed around freedom what about the freedom of movement, to leave your house, go to work, go out? Why does your right to Rambo cosplay trump my mom's right to run to the grocery store?
Mass shooting in my home town. Suspect at large according to the local newspaper. My mom is fine. It's just...the "serious" people who tell me I'm suppose to respect the people & opinions that keep this country drowning in guns. Fuck that & fuck them

I’m devastated by the mass shooting in my home state and so close to my hometown where most of my family still live.

I’m also begging everyone not to use this as an opportunity to stigmatize mental illness. People with mental illnesses are much more likely to be the victims of gun violence.

Oh come on. This is nothing more than an attempt to take down Planned Parenthood as a major (but certainly far from the only) player in the abortion / repro rights space & send a message to others to back down. Defrauding Medicaid? Seriously? 🙄
New: Trump-appointed Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, the judge who suspended approval of the abortion pill, in a now-sealed opinion held Planned Parenthood must face a trial in Texas' $1.8 billion lawsuit accusing it of defrauding Medicaid.

Climate justice is disability justice.

Queer justice is disability justice.

Racial justice is disability justice.

Disability is extremely intersectional: you canNOT do the work to truly correct any of these issues without actively including disabled people.
