🏜️Ahead of #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we have to talk about why it’s time to drop “health care desert” (and similar desert imaginaries) from our vocabularies. 🧵

Having one of those work days in which I am slammed but working on things for movement clients that I am extremely excited about. I'm coming up on 6 years at NHeLP (wild) and feel so lucky that it's every bit as much my dream job as it was when I started.

If you’re a cisgender woman who’s been speaking out about the NYT “are women ruining the workplace” op-ed but have never said a word about the NYT’s years of vile anti-trans op-eds, sorry, but you’re never going to get free. Our liberation is intertwined.

People want their members of Congress to fight for them with everything we've got.

Senate Democrats should listen and reject this funding deal that does nothing to stop healthcare costs from skyrocketing.

Our neighbors are hungry. We saw that enhanced child tax credits could reduce food insecurity, & now we know that food insecurity rose when it was allowed to lapse. And SNAP has always been "supplemental"- that's the S in SNAP.

The status quo was already one where hunger was a persistent reality.
I still think that the pain of "gov't shutdowns" should be shared by those responsible for negotiating.

I also think that true democracies would not allow core state functions to grind to a halt over budget reconciliations because core functions should be funded from a separate pot.

Utterly annoyed at the many cis white women who are concerned the NYT is suddenly off the deep end with the patriarchal “are women ruining the workplace“ op-ed. Babes, where were‘ve you been as the NYT has published transphobic BS for years? Transphobia is a form of patriarchy. Solidarity or bust.

Is the Princess and The Pea actually about a princess or is it about a woman with #EhlersDanlosSyndrome who actually likely would have her sleep ruined by a pea under a stack of mattresses?

Do not undersell the importance of this win for the mid terms. This proves, like all other progressive wins tonight, that trans rights is a winning platform and you don’t need to abandon marginalized communities to win.

A lot of young people have been asking me how I stay hopeful in the face of rising fascism. Part of the answer is studying the histories of successful resistance in the face of injustices this bad or worse, from the Green Wave to the Civil Rights movement. Part of the answer is fantasy novels.

On today's episode of Gendered Symptom Dismissal is an Epidemic, a friend who lost an ovary years ago raised concerns that she might be experiencing early onset perimenopause to her OBGYN. Her OBGYN blew off the concern.

Losing an ovary is a risk factor for early onset perimenopause.

1/ In The Guardian, Moira Donegan notes many defenses of #GrahamPlatner rely on the Democrats’ “wrong‑headed theory of the male working class.”

But the working class is far more than white male industrial laborers. Women, immigrants, & people of color make up much of the class. #MEPolitics

It does not invoke the same existential questions. It does not map onto the ways in which attacks on GAC access are constructed. It does not compare to the medicalization of identity and autonomy in the same ways.

SRHJ is the most analogous struggle and it behooves us to pivot accordingly.

The abortion access struggle has such a high degree of overlap, in the strategies and agents that underly these attacks. We've wasted significant time and resources trying to use the marriage equality playbook, but marriage equality is not the same type of medicalized issue.

I feel strongly that is it fundamentally misguided to approach the issue of gender-affirming care access advocacy throgh the marriage equality framework, as opposed to the abortion playbook.
