By hiding context, we create a meta-mystery in which the author and POV character are 'in' on the reveal, but the reader is not. Consider how the reader's connection to the character suffers for this. Is the reveal really worth the disconnect? #writingcommunity
my #1 writing tip is that it is almost never a good idea to hide context from the reader. you think it's going to be a dramatic reveal! that will make everything make sense in hindsight! but it's actually just muddled and confusing.

How do you write when the world is burning?
Passionately and compassionately. Onward.

As a writer, I find Ayn Rand's career fascinating because that woman is literally the human version of the law of diminishing returns, every single thing she wrote was worse than the previous thing she wrote, it's extraordinary

Been thinking of perfect book titles. Titles that encompass all the book is trying to express.

“Charlotte’s Web” is a perfect book title.

I’m sure there are others.

I wasn't aware that "silhouette" was a word I didn't know how to spell until it came up 20 times in the first 8 chapters of this manuscript. If I learn anything from publishing this book, I hope it's how to spell that word. #writing #spelling #writingcommunity #spelling

Researching dinosaurs has been great for my mental health... until I found the videos of "scientifically accurate dinosaur vocalizations." They all use the creepiest dinosaur art possible and it creates an experience that inspires and terrifies me. 🦖 #dinosaurs #writing #writingcommunity #research

With current events getting more and more stressful and treacherous, writing has been the life preserver keeping my head above water. I'm grateful to have an outlet for fear, hope, and creative expression and I encourage others to give it a try if you haven't already. #writingcommunity #writing

@ceemtaylor.com In both your reading and your writing, do you prefer 1st person POV or 3rd person POV? And do you prefer present or past tense? Are your preferences different when you read than when you write? I'm wrestling with this now as I write my current story 😨

Boy, this chapter turned out to be much, much, MUCH longer than every chapter that came before it. Every time I think it’s almost done I think, “I just need to throw in this last bit and then I can wrap it up,” and then I look up and I’ve added another couple thousand words and the cycle repeats.

Now that we know the settings of all six episodes of WWD 2025 and at least a few of the dinosaurs that will feature, which episode are you looking forward to the most?

2nd book of 2025: Repeat After Me by Jessica Warman. A crass, humorous and dark upper YA novel about a high school senior who gets trapped in a time loop while on a senior trip to a remote island. Great characters, great dialogue, and a great execution of the premise. 4.5/5 stars #BookSky #books
