In honour of Rob Reiner, have David Moore's thread on the best sword fight in movie history and exactly how nerdy it is.
As you may know, I have stopped using Twitter, and have decided to reproduce some of my more memorable threads here for posterity. Here’s one I hold wrote after a particularly engaging swordfighting lesson.

Buckle up, swordfighting fans, because I *have* studied my Agrippa!

I don't know what the most LA thing is about this: that it was posted in the first place, that we collectively learned from the comments that the one lady with the German Shepherd billboard actually sells insurance and isn't a lawyer at all, or that it was flaired "sports."

“AI is clearly sticking around so you have to get used to it” wrong. I don’t have to get used to shit. I am a practiced hater and I can keep this going for decades if I am required to

Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

Excellent recap of recent events from a guy who used to make the LA Times worth reading before the billionaire came in and ruined it all.

Someone attempted to co-opt my Bluesky account today, which is, like, super embarrassing. For them.

It takes a special kind of moron to try to steal the social network credentials of someone with intentionally limited, decades-long friends and zero clout 😂

Irish Waters, Madison, WI. In March they'd do a delicious Guinness Irish stew, but the standout for me was always the burger with some unholy combination of cream cheese and black olives that I've never been able to replicate. I still dream about that burger sometimes.
Rangoon, a Burmese restaurant in Philadelphia's Chinatown.

Their bread, damn. And the bean dip you could get with it, fuck.
I don't want to hear about your lost loves, tell me about the restaurant food that haunts you because you'll never be able to taste it again

THE DREAM IS REAL

(You'd better believe the first priority is putting in a Goldbelly order for State Street Brats. Priority two is probably a Costco trip this weekend.)

Birthday "gifts" I did not expect:
* A vote of no confidence in my university president
* A new car (that I have to pay for)
* This, trolling me from a store window⬇️

This fuckin' year, man.
