"Adults are able to make hard choices and articulate them and stand behind them. People who are not yet adults engage in magical thinking and think they can eat their cake and have it too," says Perks, of Bradford's motion that'd reduce revenue without saying where he'd cut services or find offsets.

This is a really appalling editorial error on BBC Question Time

"Apparently one in three children don't speak English as a first language, why does this matter?"

Chair says "have English as a second language"

Caption changes the meaning entirely
"Don't speak fluent English"

Scrapping the two-child limit *is* welfare reform. Defining ‘reform’ solely as ‘cut’ is one reason why it’s proved so difficult

Somehow still found not guilty 🤷
As we await a verdict in the trial of Soldier F, another reminder that in 2010 the Bloody Sunday inquiry found

- the killings were unjustified
- none of the 14 dead (7 of whom were children) had guns
- no warnings were given
- no soldiers were under threat
- the troops were the first to open fire

The UK right is fully into "remigration" now, and Labour is just trying to sell it's own harsher immigration policies as more practical, rather than challenging this extremist policy head-on
The Conservatives currently propose to retrospectively remove the ILR of permanent residents who aren't earning £37k, or who "accessed state support" They set no time limit re arrival or time of ILR. (Most people with ILR are pre-2020 arrivals)

Reform would do same but at £60k not £37k threshold

It’s deeply wrong that Israeli teams are even still in UEFA competitions, yet now we essentially have the PM giving 0 thought to the safety of a largely Muslim neighbourhood in Birmingham, so that Maccabi fans can attend a match

Talks happening 'at pace' over decision to block Tel Aviv fans, says Downing Street
Followers of the Israeli club will not be allowed to attend the Europa League game after a decision by Birmingham safety advisory group.

"Canada Post is on track to lose money" Hum. Duh. It cost less than a toonie to send a letter across Canada.

"Canada Post is a service and not a business" was common knowledge until late stage capitalism brain rotted most people into think if it ain't making money for shareholders, it's failing.

What are the odds that he's come to this conclusion bc only the US and Canada use brand names for common, over-the-counter medication?
Trump: "There are parts of the world that don't take Tylenol. There's a rumor, and I don't know if it's so or not, that Cuba, they don't have Tylenol because they don't have the money for Tylenol, and they have virtually no autism. Okay? Tell me about that one!"

Unbelievably grim
Trump: "We're seeing that there are no ships in the ocean anymore ... no there are no boats. I wonder why? Meaning, no drugs are coming across. Probably stopping some fishermen too. To be honest, if I were a fisherman, I wouldn't want to go fishing either. 'Maybe they think I have drugs downstairs'"

as hard as it is to imagine political solutions to the current moment, it’s even harder to imagine how we could be expected to comfortably share a society with these fucking babykillers
I recently looked up the Arabic translation of some of the names of the emaciated children used in coverage of the alleged famine in Gaza.

It turns out that many of them were sick before the war and have long, complicated medical histories. Our reporting shows they do not represent the average.

I'm not exaggerating, that is the transphobes' *entire argument*: The near-unanimous positive findings on youth transition do not count because we have methodological quibbles with the research.

In any other field you would look at early, promising research and go "yep, keep expanding."

Car supremacy is kind of a fascinating tic of conservative ideology to me: They can only conceive of liberty within the structures of the status quo.

Driving in a dense city is *theoretical* freedom but in practice it’s oppression. Meaningful freedom is walking, biking and regular public transit.

Keir Starmer is simply wrong in law. A trans woman with a Gender Recognition Certificate is considered a woman for the vast majority of legal purposes, as required by the ECHR. One would expect a former human rights lawyer to have a better grasp of legal detail.
Asked if Keir Starmer still believes that a trans woman is a woman, his spokesman replies "no".

Says that trans women must now use men's bathrooms
